M.Phil in Sociology is a master of philosophy course in Sociology which is also a preparatory course for Ph.D. This course is about the study of human society; its development, structure and functioning. A candidate has to be a Master of Sociology graduate from a recognised university in order to be eligible for this course.
M.Phil. in Sociology is a one year program that has most of the syllabus dedicated to personal research of the student. The course follows a semester system over annual system. The mode of admission is solely through Entrance Examination which is either conducted by a state, university, national level followed by a Personal Interview.
Since there is a large quantity of colleges both private and government the average tuition fee tends to vary. However, at an average, the fees for the entire course would range from 30 Thousand INR to 50 Thousand INR.
Students with an M.Phil in Sociology degree can find employment in Universities, Colleges, Schools, public health and welfare organisation, NGO’s and Social Services. In these sectors they can work as School teacher, Research Assistant, Social Worker, lecturer etc. A fresh graduate of this course can expect an average annual salary of 1.5 Lakh INR to 3 Lakh INR. This salary would only increase with experience.
This course usually follows the Semester system over annual mode and hence is divided into two semesters. In some colleges, the duration also extends to three semesters.
If done through correspondence or distant learning, the duration of the course is from 1 ½ years at minimum and 4 years at maximum.
