Admission to NIT Patna is through the JEE Main exam, with around 14 lakh students participating. Successful candidates are allocated seats through a counseling process by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. The college offers an Integrated Masters course in Physics, attracting students to its undergraduate program. The faculty predominantly holds PhDs from renowned IITs and international universities, and although quality varies, many are involved in research and supportive of student inquiries.
Fees are structured based on family income: full tuition waiver for incomes below 1 lakh, a two-thirds waiver for incomes between 1 lakh and 5 lakhs, and a full fee of approximately 1.8 lakhs per year for incomes over 5 lakhs. This makes the college affordable for lower-income families. NIT Patna has a 94% placement rate for registered students, especially strong in core companies from CSE, EE, ME, and CE departments.
Currently, internships are not offered due to space constraints, but this may change with the new campus. While there are no special scholarships or loans, a Merit cum Means scholarship is available, and fee waivers are provided based on income.
