- Politics and Criminology at the University of Chester looks behind the media headlines and assumptions that surround power politics. We explore the underlying political issues and ask age old questions such as ÔHow do we achieve the good society?Õ; ÔDo the strong do as they please, while the weak suffer?Õ; and ÔIs the point of politics to change the world?Õ.
- The teaching team brings a wealth of experience and knowledge. We may also invite guest lecturers to provide specialist sessions and where appropriate, facilitate visits to political institutions and events with regional MPs and local authorities.
- Through our wide ranging backgrounds and expertise, and in ensuing a rich interdisciplinary approach, we work to expand your criminological and victimological imagination. We encourage you to engage in independent learning and thought, and we equip you with the skills needed to find, retrieve and analyse an array of materials.
- Across the Department we have an emphasis on being student centred.Ê This includes students being assigned a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) and highlighted drop in times for you to visit lecturers.
Job prospects
Criminology graduates will possess a vast range of skills and expertise that are highly applicable to roles in public, private and charitable sectors. Graduate of criminology often work in areas such as: criminal justice agencies; third-sector organisations that work with vulnerable individuals and groups; policy and analyst roles for public service agencies and private companies; and further study such as postgraduate taught programmes or doctoral study
There are many opportunities related to politics. Graduates may work in areas such as; think tanks, trade unions, local or national government, political research, MP offices, the civil service, and/or political communication. A graduate of Politics at Chester will have a developed ability to be critical and analytical which is highly germane to a range of disciplines as well as postgraduate study.
