Doctor of Philosophy [Ph.D] [EPSRC CASE PhD in Computer Science and Informatics: Scalable real-time deep neural network optimization for malware classificati] From Cardiff University

The novel element of the study will be to investigate the possibility of capturing the overall neuron activation state of the entire deep neural net and to identify areas of the net that can be optimised through recurrent feedback across the entire deep neural net using innovative methods beyond back propagation. Furthermore, this activity will be applied at scale on real-time sample throughput, so the project will also investigate methods for innovative input data reduction techniques and parallel training methods such as those supported by Apache SPARK and MicrosoftÕs Cognitive Toolkit.

The outcomes of the project will lead to novel computer science articles. The student would be given full access to Airbus facilities in Newport and be integrated into the Cyber Operations team as a member of the research unit, providing first-hand industry R&T experience.

The successful candidate will be registered for a full-time 4-year PhD, commencing on 1 October 2017, in the area of Data Science for Risk & Security, specifically, Scalable Real-Time Deep Neural Network Optimization for Malware Classification.
