  • Doctor of Philosophy in Biostatistics at the University of Cambridge is offered on a full-time basis for a duration of 3-4 Years.
  • This is an on-campus and research-based degree program.
  • The aim of the academic part of the program is to:
    • gain experience in written and oral presentation of your work
    • monitor the quality of your research project
    • ensure that your PhD project is on track.
  • The seminars are held, roughly monthly, on Tuesday afternoons during term time. Attendance is strongly encouraged.
  • Students are also encouraged to attend the informal weekly departmental meetings held on Wednesday mornings.
  • Students are also encouraged to attend seminars, workshops, and courses at the Stats Lab in the Centre for Mathematical Sciences.
  • Students in their first year attend the UK-wide Academy for Postgraduate Training in Statistics which comprises four one-week residential courses.
  • Students present an introduction to their project in the second term, and make more detailed presentations usually at the start of their second year and early in the third year.
  • They are encouraged to make other presentations within the Unit and at national and international conferences.
  • The department has 40 academic staff, 20 postdoctoral researchers, and 16 graduate students.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must complete a UK honors degree, or equivalent in mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
  • All students will be expected to have significant knowledge of statistics.
  • Students also complete a master's degree from a recognized university.
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or C1 Advanced-Grade A or B (with at least 193 in each individual element) plus a language center assessment.
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) or C2 Proficiency-Grade A, B, or C (with at least 200 in each individual element).
  • Students must be qualified in IELTS or TOEFL and PTE to get admission in this program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they complete one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Completed a 4-year bachelor's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Or, completed a B.Sc/B.Com/B.A (3-4 year) degree from well-ranked institutions with an overall grade of 70% or CGPA 7.3+.
  • Or, completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized university.
