VISA
The following is the Visa requirements:-
Depending on student's nationality they may need to apply for a visa to enter the UK for study. This will give them permission to enter the UK and study here. All non-UK citizens will need a form of immigration permission to study in the UK. However, these can vary depending on their nationality and length of stay.
- Apply for a Student Route Visa if students are attending Birmingham for more than 6 months: If students are planning to study for a full academic year or longer than 6 months in the UK then they will need to apply for a Student Route visa in their home country before traveling. If they are staying for less than 6 months but also plan to volunteer or work here, they will also need a Student Route visa. Students can apply for a student visa to study in the UK if they’re 16 or over:
- have been offered a place on a course by a licensed student sponsor
- have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course - the amount will vary depending on students circumstances
- can speak, read, write and understand English
- have consent from their parents if they are 16 or 17 they will need evidence of this when they apply
- If students are 16 or 17 and want to study at an independent school in the UK, they may be eligible for a Child Student visa instead.
- This visa has replaced the Tier 4 (General) student visa.
- Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies:
- Before students can apply for a Student Route visa they will need their Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies number which is issued to them directly via Admissions. These will be sent to students by 1st July as they can’t begin their visa application earlier than 3 months before their study date.
- Biometric Residence Permits:
- As students will be studying with this university for a year and on a Student Route visa, they will also be issued with a Biometric Residence Permit.
- Once students have received their CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) number university advise them to use the ‘alternative location’ code which is 2HE322 in the alternative location field in the BRP Collection Page within the visa application – this means they will then be able to collect their BRP card from the University of Birmingham campus.
- Apply for a Short Term Study Visa if students are attending Birmingham for less than 6 months:
- If students are coming to study at Birmingham for just one semester or for a program that is less than 6 months then they should apply for a short-term study visa. If they plan to extend their studies in the UK or wish to work, including undertaking work placements, then they should apply for a Student Route Visa.
- Students from some countries can simply arrive in the UK with the appropriate documents. Students from other countries must apply in advance even for a Short-Term Student Visa.
