- The fast-changing world of business is one where firms need to be aware of, respond to, and anticipate changes and also bring them about. International and global aspects of these changes have become of growing importance.
- The module develops knowledge and understanding of the market economy including the role of governments. Economic, technological, social, political and legal aspects of the business environment are examined as they affect firms, consumers and suppliers of inputs.
- The growing internationalization of business is explained with reference to such aspects. This involves examining trade and investment patterns.
- Some major factors affecting the behavior and performance of firms are identified in the microeconomic context of markets/industries and the macroeconomic one of the national and international political economy. Financial institutions and their performance are explained in the light of recent problems for banks
