The curriculum of the Sport and Physical Education (Hons) at Cardiff Metropolitan University becomes progressively more focused and specialised across the three years of the programme.

In addition to the comprehensive theoretical and practical academic framework, you will be encouraged to build a portfolio of UKCC coaching qualifications, work placement learning and experiences during your time at University. Cardiff Met offers on-campus opportunities for you to engage in and has excellent links with Sport Cardiff and surrounding schools and local authorities. You will have access to a wealth of valuable experiential learning opportunities including National Governing Bodies and community sports initiatives.

The Sport and Physical Education degree aims to:

• Develop intellectual knowledge, understanding and application of the academic disciplines that underpin physical education and youth sport;

• Evaluate the needs of participants relevant to their age, ability and levels of physical attainment in sport and physical activity;

• Investigate the concepts and issues that inform physical education and youth sport in the UK and abroad;

• Prepare you for effective employment or future study by developing graduate attributes including problem solving, inter-personal skills, global citizenship (diversity & sustainability), flexibility and adaptability (life-long learning), effective communication and creativity & innovation.?

Employability & Careers:

Our graduates have followed careers in teaching PE, primary teaching, coaching, the leisure industry, sport science, community sports development, in recreation management, and as national and regional coaches. Past graduates have obtained employment as PE teachers, primary school teachers and teaching assistants. They have delivered education progammes at football academies, coached gymnastics, soccer or trampolining, worked as fitness consultants and trainers, as sports analysts, sports administrators, or joined the Armed Forces or Police Service. Others have undertaken further study in the areas of physiotherapy, sports massage, nursing, teaching and coaching. The subjects studied and skills learnt will give you the opportunity to continue your education to Master and Doctorate level or to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. ?
