Quarantine fee financial support for international students from Red List Nations has been announced by UK universities and schools. The Red List was re-issued by the UK government in response to the emergence of the COVID19 virus's Omicron mutation. South Africa, Botswana, Nigeria, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, and Namibia are among the 11 African countries on the list According to the Red List's requirements, travelers from these countries must quarantine themselves in government-provided accommodation for a period of ten days; this quarantine must be paid for by the traveler at a cost of £2,285.

Nigeria, which is one of the top five priority nations in the UK International Education Strategy, has been included in these laws, according to educational institutions in the country. As the January 2022 semester approaches, students from Nigeria are likely to arrive in large numbers; however, the imposition of a quarantine fee is projected to place financial hardship on them. Many institutions have indicated that overseas students arriving in the UK from the countries above would be reimbursed fully or partially of their quarantine fees. University of Swansea, University of Exeter, University of Nottingham, University of Bath, Loughborough University, University of Manchester, and University of Gloucestershire are among the front-runners for financial aid. On arrival in the UK and travel to Gloucestershire, the University of Gloucestershire has announced a partial reimbursement of £1,210 as well as additional aid in PCR testing.
Accepted immigrants must be of British or Irish origin or have UK residency rights, according to the red list's terms. While the government has not specified the status of foreign student visa holders in this respect, department of education standards allow for residence rights to be linked to student visas. The unexpected appearance and overlap of the January 2022 session has thrown the administration into disarray, with a potential scarcity of housing centers. As a result, priority and super priority visas for nations on the Red List have been halted.

The government has also given permission for student residential establishments to serve as quarantine centers. In this case, institutions that do not step forward to assist and aid students from Red List countries, particularly Nigeria, will face severe and negative consequences in the future, as Nigeria is one of the UK's most important markets for international education.
