British Council Announces Scholarships for Women in STEM; Check Details Here

The British Council has announced the second cohort of British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) for the year 2022. Female candidates interested to apply for the British Council scholarship must note that the applications for scholarships in STEM will be available till March 31, 2022. However, they should also check individual university deadlines before applying for the scholarship.

More than hundred scholarships will be available to women STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) scholars from Asia and the Americas, out of which 65 scholarships are reserved for women STEM scholars from India and other South Asian countries, awarded based on merit with no country-specific cap.

The shortlisted candidates will be eligible to pursue a master’s degree or an Early Academic Fellowship across thirteen UK universities in trending courses like Data Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, Public Health systems, Information Technology, Renewable Energy & Energy Management and Project Management.

The scholarship for women in STEM will cover the entire tuition fees, monthly stipend, travel costs, visa and health coverage fees, along with funding for dependents if any candidate intends to travel with their children.

The scholarship for women in STEM is open to women with dependents to apply, with extra assistance.

This scholarship programme aims to increase opportunities in STEM for female candidates and women.

According to data from the UN Scientific Education and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), fewer than 30 percent of researchers worldwide are women and only 30 percent of female students select STEM-related fields in higher education.

The first global cohort of the British Council scholarship for women in STEM recorded the enrollment of 119 scholars on their chosen course in the autumn session of 2021, which included 19 women candidates from India.

With these scholarships, the British Council continues to support women looking to acquire global credentials in STEM (science, technology, engineering or maths) at a university in the UK.

Introducing the second cohort of the scholarship, Barbara Wickham OBE, Director India, British Council, said that the second cohort was launched after receiving an overwhelming response for the first cohort of the scholarship.

Further, the UK being widely recognised as a home to some of the world’s top-ranked and prestigious universities offering quality programmes in STEM, the council aims to enable women from across India to access a master’s degree or an academic fellowship at leading UK universities, Wickham said.

British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM 2022: Application Process

Applications should be sent directly to the participating universities. So, candidates can visit the British Council website to know the exact deadlines of the respective universities. The scholarship application deadline will vary between courses but range from February 14, to April 10, 2022.
