A good college to pursue your MBBS degree from.

Remarks :

Eligibility for the course required is cut-off marks in the NEET UG examination. Application forms can be filled out on kea website, The application fee was 1000 Rs at the time of my admission, application dates were 5 days in the month of November 2021. Our application and form filling was online but after that, we had to sit in offline counselling at KEA headquarters in Malleswaram in Bangalore. I haven't taken any reservation benefits since I belong to the UR category. The admission procedure could have been thoroughly online, offline meant we had to come all the way from North India(Jharkhand) till here with uncertainty surrounding the admission.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I was always passionate about medicine and becoming a doctor so I pursued it. Faculty to student ratio should be somewhere around 1:25 on an average with 6 faculties generally being in every department. All the clinical side faculty are qualified MBBS+MD doctors while a few faculty in non-clinical side like Physiology, Microbiology & Pharmacology are not qualified doctors.

Internships Opportunities :

There is no stipend offered at SSIMS during internship and in MBBS there is no such thing as campus placements. The hostel fee is reduced instead to manage the non-offering of stipend. The internship is compulsory for 1 year after 4.5 years of MBBS but it is not paid as mentioned above though you get to learn a lot and no stipend kind of reduces the motivation to work but if you want to learn, then it's great overall.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Since our college is a private one, the fee structure for government quota students is around 1.4 LPA, for private quota and non-Karnataka students coming through All India Open Quota is around 9.94 LPA, and for Management, you can expect around 1.2-1.5 crore for the whole course of 4.5 years. Fee is hiked generally after every 3 years with the current fee structure mentioned above intact since last 3 years. I didn't get any scholarship since I did not fit in any criteria being UR and also financially able but students particularly government quota ones can avail NSP, SSP, Vidyashri, KMDC like scholarships. We don't get any stipend during the internship none of the students get it but there is no internship fee either. We can continue working in the hospital as Resident doctors.

Campus Life :

Activities, Infra, Campus Size, etc are top notch which also affects the student's academic performance as a whole. Events such as Annual College Day, Sports Day, 5 Day Ganesha Festival celebration, Teachers Day, as well as Academic Fests, and Medical Seminars, are routinely done. The library is well equipped with books and students use it well for their preparations. The classroom is fully air-conditioned, known as lecture halls while theory classes are conducted under Projectors and Clinical Postings in the hospital seminar rooms. There is no shortage of Sports and extracurricular activities on campus. All kinds of sports ranging from cricket, football, handball, volleyball, and basketball are played & our college has superiority in most. There are Magazine Committee, Sports Committee, IT Committee, Literary Committee, and Kannada Balaga run by students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course as I want to help the society. Also, biology always fascinated me and my parents encouraged me to pursue medicine Faculty: student ratio in my college is about 1:4 .Most of the faculty are MBBS qualified and have completed PG in their respective fields. Course curriculum is fine, most of the syllabus has to be studied by oneself on one's own or with external help as the faculty is not of much help. 3 internal exams are taken each year at an interval of about 3 months each after which the final university exams are taken. They are easy to pass if one studies 2 hours each day and a bit more before the exams.

Getting into medical is tough. Every year 11-13 lakh students take the exams. The total available seats are around 1 lakh. Once into medical, the teaching is fine but most of us study on our own.
