Remarks :
For admission to SRM University, there is a srmjee in which you will be given your branches according to the rank you get. They provide counseling for all students below the 75,000 rank on the main campus.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose Electronics and communications engineering because I used to be fascinated by electronics. Speaking about the faculties, if you really wish to gain knowledge from them, then there are a few but not everyone. In the end, college is supposed to be self-study only. The faculty-student ratio is pretty decent. Around 50% of the faculties have a PhD. Exams in SRM are easy if you study properly.
Internships Opportunities :
Many many top companies come for internships like Philips Bosch cognizant and many other top companies but the problem is that only the top 1% get these internships. So mostly no one will get these internships. SRM itself offers internships with the faculties that work on a project. The maximum stipend given was 90,000 each for 3 months totaling 2,70,000.
Placement Experience :
There is a 100% placement record for SRM but the sad truth is that in order to achieve this they force the students to take whatever package we get from even mass recruiters. My plan after the degree will be most probably to do further studies abroad. The highest package last year was around 58 lpa. From the 5th sem students are able to get internships in very too companies, but you have to be in that top 1% to get it.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fee structure for electronics and communication engineering is 250000 and it hasn't changed from when I got admission. Almost all the branches have the same tuition fee, but for the computer science branch, it was 3,50,000 for our batch and now it has even gone up to 5,00,000.
Campus Life :
The annual fest is called Milan which is held in summer and the tech fest is called Aarush which is held throughout the year. The past year Milan and Aarush both were very disappointed because crowd control was not efficient. This year they have hugely improved with Aarush. As for amenities, there will be ACs in every classroom from next year. Sports teams only exist for the sports quota students of SRM. The clubs in SRM are really active and very fun once you get selected and have an interest in the club.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostel rates are too much for what they provide. Hostel food was very mid for our batch but I'm hearing it's improved since then. Better than living in a hostel is living outside the campus because, for the same rate that you are paying in a hostel for a 3 sharing nonac room with a common washroom, you will get a flat fully furnished with all amenities. The locality where I rented a room is Potheri, which is very close to the campus, only within walking distance.
