Nift, Mumbai College Review

Remarks :

To take admission into B.FTech, a student must have had PCM in their 10+2. The application form, fees, and dates come every year around December and the window is opened for around a month. The exam most probably take place in the month of February and the final results come out in the month of June.

Course Curriculum Overview :

This course is a combination of fashion and technology. Any student who wants to learn the technology, management, and production side of fashion can opt for this course. There are about 34 students in a class and there is 1 professor for each subject. The faculty are highly qualified and knowledgeable. They make the students industry-ready and guide them properly. There are midterms, end terms, and final jury in a semester and under the assistance of faculty, it's not that difficult to prepare for them.

Internships Opportunities :

B.FTech students have a 2-week textile internship at the end of 2nd year which is included in their grades through a final jury. The other internships begin in 3rd year related to their specific deepening specialisations.

Placement Experience :

The students from the 8th semester become eligible for campus placements. Almost 100 per cent of students get placed in our college every year. The highest salary package offered in B.FTech was around 17lpa and the average package ranges b/w 5-6lpa. Top recruiting companies are RBL, Arvind, Vardhaman Textiles, Raymonds, H&M, etc. The top roles offered are Apparel Production Manager, Quality Control Manager, Garment Merchandiser and Warehouse Manager.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee for every semester is more than 1.5 lakhs and there is about a 10 percent hike in it every year. There is a scholarship offered by NIFT known as the Sarthak policy under which students whose parent's income is less than 4.5 lakhs/annum are given financial aid according to their income slabs.

Campus Life :

Life on campus is lively and opportunistic. There are 2 fests that happen every year in NIFT, namely, Converge and Spectrum. Converge happens around November every year whereas Spectrum happens around January every year. The college has an extensive Resource centre with a premium collection of books that really helps students with their assignments. Other than that, there are smartboards/TVs in every class for proper one-on-one interaction with the students along with smart mediums. We have different societies/clubs namely Sports Club, Cultural Club, Literary Club, Environmental Club, Film Club, and Photography and Adventure Club.

Hostel Facilities :

The rooms are good and include a single bed, table and chair, godrej almirah, dressing table, and balcony as well. The food quality is okayish and it is edible but you might get bored after some time eating the food again and again. The hostel is affordable and provides all the basic amenities required such as an Induction room, fridge, jogging area, gym etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course as I always wanted to pursue photography and I was good at arts & design. Faculty was very limited, and in all four years of the course not much changed in faculty & the strength of the class was around 40 students as the fashion communication department had only 1 batch. Teaching methods were satisfactory, teachers were very well knowledged about the subject and helpful too. Term exams usually used to be after 4 months, there used to be 2 term exams in an academic year. Passing difficulty was tough, attendance played a very crucial role, and girls with less attendance were not allowed to take exams (whatever may be the reason).
