All you should know about Ramakrishna Mission Shilpamandira Electrical Engineering department.

Remarks :

If you have passed Matriculation you are eligible for taking this course. Before the WBBSE exam, you can find the application on the WBSCTE website tentative time is around January - February. The application fee is under 500. If you want to opt for any Government college from counseling there is a reservation same as other government institutions. Previously admission was an offline process but now it's totally online so they have improved the admission process.

Course Curriculum Overview :

In diploma, there are many streams like Civil/ Mechanical / Electronics and Telecommunication/ Electrical engineering. In my college Electrical engineering was the top branch and I had an interest in Electrical engineering so I opted for EE. In our department, there was a total of 8 faculties for 40 students so it's a very good faculty: student ratio quite the same in other departments, in other departments there were 10 faculties for 60 students. All the facilities are B. Tech and some are M.Tech qualified and our HOD has a Ph.D. from the USA. As there is a good faculty-to-student ratio the teaching-learning process is quite impressive and lab orientation Also department had received some facilities from IITs in some domains so we had quite a good laboratory with a decent number of the latest technology equipment. There are four exams in a semester two internal exams 1 semester exam and one lab viva exam for every subject in a semester. Exams are quite challenging for newcomers as the pattern is based on LAQ

Internships Opportunities :

WBPDCL, BSNL, KTPL, and some other local companies provide training programs to students who are not paid internships rather they are upskilling programs. This is included in the learning process and students have to give a presentation of the training outcome. The outcome is basically to know how the theories and labs done in college are implemented at the industrial level.

Placement Experience :

Students are eligible for campus placements from the 5th semester. On average 16 companies visit campus department-wise and offer almost 50 jobs to 40 students. Highest package was provided by Atlas Copco to 1 student of 4.6 LPA for the service engineer role. The average package was 2.4-2.5 LPA offered by other companies for R&D assistant, service engineer, site engineer, and supervisor roles. In my department, 38 students opted for placement and all of them got at least a job offer at the end of the session so in my year placement was 100% Also, some had more than 1 offer including me who got 3 offers, 1 from Tire 2 company and the other 2 offers from Tire 1 companies.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

There is no yearly fee hike in our college. But when a new batch takes admission there may be a hike in fees with respect to the previous batch. We had a semester fee of 16000 per semester everything included and an exam fee of 250 to be paid to the WBSCTE board. West Bengal government provides some scholarships like SVMCM scholarships for students. The college is placement-oriented so placement is the highest priority in the college. You have to fill out a form based on your placement preferences, a lot of companies come to college campuses. Majorly from core sectors like Tata Motors, L&T, Voltas, Atlas Copco, Sapoorji, etc. for Diploma Trainee Engineer role. Now Tech companies like Capgemini and Infosys also hire on a pooled basis.

Campus Life :

As a missionary college, there is no annual fest. The availability of text/reference books is very good, every student gets 4 textbooks each semester. Classrooms are good and well maintained only computer labs have Air conditioning. There is a playground on the campus and a sports club where students play sports after the end of classes. Classes occur from 10 am to 5 pm there is a 30-minute tiffin break from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm. In 1st half, there are theory classes and labs in 2nd Half. There is a canteen on the campus which offers a decent variety of foods and the pricing is also decent not very expensive not very cheap.

Student ratio 1:60 I mean 1 course 60 students approx. All faculty members have good qualifications. Maximum teachers are NATS and B.tech qualified and their teaching methods are superb. One semester exam time is only 4-5 months and if you are minimum study you pass easily.
