How are the XLRI GMP placements for candidates who came from a non-IT background?

SS
Shivalika Sharma Posted On : May 21st, 2021
studying B. Tech from Banasthali Vidyapeeth (2019).

XLRI is a really good institute to go for. The ethos, culture, and diversity are all enigmatic. One of my friends studying there suggests that you can learn and grow simultaneously.

  • Placements for non-IT background students are comparatively less. Usually, the domain consultant role is offered.
  • These domain consultants also get a chance to go abroad for further work experience.
  • Nowadays, companies are also hiring, even being unsure about the candidate’s past work experience.
  • You just evolve as your potential individuality begins to blossom. This is the most significant advantage of being in XLRI.
  • Academics and case studies are generally the same across the board.
  • The admissions process is a little stringent and filters out the “right” individuals.

It is not a disadvantage to not be an engineer. A consulting career requires more analytical ability, business awareness, and thought process.

All you have to do is work a little harder to achieve your goals. So, go ahead and start preparing for your career and you'll make it. Ultimately your performance will matter rather than being an IT or a non-IT background.

How does the XLRI GMP program compare with one year MBA programs of IIMs and SP Jain?

RP
Raina Pathak Posted On : May 28th, 2021
studied at Xavier School of Management

One of my friends at XLRI said that you should know the facts before diving into any conclusion and making a decision. According to him, GMP is not a good course. It has its own set of flaws.

  • There mainly is no institutional support for placements of students pursuing GMP, unlike the BM and HR course.
  • Students from a core background are advised not to join the course.
  • Choose this course only if you are willing to work as a business analyst in certain second-tier service companies.
  • This course is somewhat only for IT students.
  • If you are employed in companies like Coal India, Indian Railways, or NTPC. You will remain unplaced for over 6-7 years of operation.
  • You will not receive an opportunity in the GD interviews while competing against various IT students.
  • The course pedagogy states that it is a general management course. That means it lacks fundamental items like operation, finance, and strategy.
  • Only 20% of the students obtain premium jobs, while the rest have to join sales or service jobs.
  • Several jobs are seen to be cornered by “placecommers” and certain similar individuals.

The placement stats provided by the institution are -

Can I get into XLRI PGDM - GM with a GMAT score of 660 and with a work ex of 6+ years?

ST
Shibani Tagore Posted On : June 8th, 2021
Studied at Xavier School of Management

My cousin is in XLRI's PGDM program and he told me that his work experience in China helped him a lot as they value international experience. If you've volunteered with NGOs or did any form of social service in the past, then that'll definitely count.

Overall, a strong application with some essays and recommendation letters will raise your chances of admission. You should be able to prove to them that what you do is extraordinary, that you are a natural leader. Once you've prepared your application, get a grammar check done by your friends with good English language skills. Keep working on your application.

  • Substantiate your essays and videos with interesting anecdotes and highlight the accolades you have achieved in your career.
  • Try to retake the GMAT exam and score 700 to be in the safe spot.
  • Focus on your interview with these questions in mind- why MBA? What do you want to do after your MBA? Highlight your pre and post-MBA plans.

XLRI will regard you highly if you are aware of India’s socio-economic issues and form your answers from an inclusive point of social welfare.

Be updated on the deadlines. Wait for the list to come out. Submit the essays and video. I am sure you'll get a call for GD and a personal interview. The difficulty arises from this point and you'll be expected to have prepared extremely well for the interview.

Which is better PGDM finance or PGDM (General) from LBSIM?

MS
Malabika Sengupta Posted On : July 7th, 2021
MBA Operations & Marketing, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (2018)

The ranking of LBSIM is not that great as it doesn't appear on the list of top 10 business management institutes of India. But if you want to do PGDM from this college, then go for PGDM finance as this domain comes in the list of the top 10 careers.

The future of PGDM finance is very good and if you had commerce during your graduation, then it will get very easy to understand the concepts and complete your syllabus, but if you aren't from a commerce background, then it can be difficult for you to cope up with the syllabus.

The placement opportunities of LBSIM are very good as the placement records are 100% and around 96 companies visit the campus for interviews.

Hence, PGDM finance from LBSIM will be a very good option as this course comes in the list of top 10 courses and the placement records are also very good for this course.

As a prospective MBA student, you might be considering both IIM Nagpur and IMI Delhi as options for your studies. While IIM Nagpur is a newer institute, it does carry the IIM brand, which could be beneficial for your future career prospects. On the other hand, IMI Delhi has a long history and has consistently been ranked as a top business school.

IMI Delhi would be a better choice due to its strong connections with the corporate world and the location advantage it offers. Ultimately, the decision of which institute to attend will depend on your individual goals and priorities.

What is the minimum CAT percentile required to be selected in the cut off list for a PGDM course at Great Lakes, Chennai?

Great Lakes Chennai doesn’t have a fixed cutoff for their PGDM course. They consider past academics, work experience (if any), recommendations, essays along with performance in GMAT/CAT/XAT/CMAT, and interviews. However, it has been observed from the admission trends for the past few years that the required cutoff percentile for CAT remains above 80.

Which is better for a PGDM, IFIM Bangalore or IBS Hyderabad?

AB
Akash Bhattacharya Posted On : February 15th, 2023
MBA Supply Chain Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2020

Both the colleges are moderate and have no feature that makes them stand out from the other. IFIM Bangalore is a bit overestimated but has been able to make a mark in the Finance sector.

IBS Hyderabad on the other hand is a brand name and has been there for decades. It attracts over 1000 students every year making it one of the most coveted B Schools of the country.

The best way to find out which is a better choice is through comparing the high fees with the average package and concluding the estimated ROI.

Fees

IFIM Bangalore - ?4.65 Lakhs (1st Year Fees)

IBS Hyderabad-INR 16.02 MBA Program

Average Salary

IFIM Bangalore - INR 7.5 LPA

IBS Hyderabad - INR 11.70 LP

Other top tier colleges include

  • IMT (Hyd)
  • SIBM (Hyd)
  • NMIMS (Hyd)
  • Ashoka School of Business (Hyd)

ASB is a rather good choice in terms of ROI.

Its Ghaziabad or IMS Ghaziabad which college is better for PGDM?

TP
Tanya Panchal Posted On : February 13th, 2023
BBA from Institute of Technology and Science, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad (Graduated 2020)

My friend is a student of ITS Mohan Nagar and he claims the college to be one that gave him ample opportunities and made his dreams come true. The institute promotes the growth of students through enriched knowledge and experiences.

The infrastructure is nowhere less than any top B School and has amenities like a canteen, gym, Complex, Air Conditioned classrooms, library, hostel facilities, excellent Wi-Fi network, and well-run cafeteria.

The institute also takes a keen interest in promoting extracurricular environments. The placement scenario is also pretty decent and roles in all sectors are offered to its students. The campus has a laid-back atmosphere and you can relax anywhere. So if you want to experience a thrilling college life this one's for you.
