Among these NIT Calicut is better. Being an NIT it offers better resources and facilities. It offers well-equipped lab facilities. The campus library has a good collection of reference books. Students are also provided with digital library facilities. NIT Calicut also has a better industry reach. As a student of the institute, you will get better exposure and networking opportunities.

NIT Calicut placements 2022 concluded with an average CTC of INR 12.1 LPA. Mercedes Benz, Traceable AI, Ola Mobility, etc. were among the major recruiters that took part in the placement drive.

M.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2017)

My brother pursued his UG from CET Trivandrum and his PG from NIT Calicut. Through him, I got to know about the institutes.

Although both the institute are excellent in their fields, NIT Calicut has a slight edge over CET Trivandrum, considering the academics, faculty, and teaching in the institute. The table below gives a brief level of comparison among the institutes.

Particulars

NIT Calicut

CET Trivandrum

Total Fees (B.Tech)

Rs. 5.4 Lakhs

Rs. 2 Lakhs (approx)

Median Salary Offered

Rs. 8 LPA

Rs. 4 LPA

Admission exam

JEE Main

KEAM

Academics: (Winning Institution - NIT Calicut)

  • The syllabus of NIT is decided by the institute itself, being a deemed college. So, the courses and curriculum of NITs are very competitive and somewhat tough. CET being an affiliated institute follows the syllabus of the university.
  • The lab work at NIT is better. PG students assist UG students, along with assistant faculties in their lab work.
  • In NITs, there are VIVAs after every lab session as continuous assessments, which help the students to get involved more in the experiments and gain enough practical knowledge.

Teachers:

  • Both NIT and CET have excellent professors. But in NIT, teachers are more accessible to students for discussions and lectures.
  • In CET, the professors are somewhat strict with their teaching routine, as like government employees.

Fests: (Winning Institution - NIT Calicut)

  • The fest of NIT Calicut, called Ragam, is better compared to the one conducted in CET, Dhwani. But, in NIT Calicut, 850 rupees are collected from every student and so it has a much higher budget.
  • In CET, students literally fight with authorities for organizing different kinds of events in fests, even with a much smaller budget.

Campus:

  • The campus of NIT is almost four times the size of CET.
  • Even being a much larger campus, the campus of NIT Calicut is somewhat artificial. I remember my brother reminiscing about his hangout spots, i.e. “pancharakkad” or the library top, of CET.

Students:

  • In NIT, there are students from all cultures mixed with each other, although there are provincial gangs everywhere. The same is the case in CET, where political vision creates groups.
  • NIT is definitely a winner in placements. In branches except for Civil and Mechanical, NIT students get offers with excellent salary packages, even compared to IITs. But in CET, students are mostly hired by mass recruiting IT companies.

Overall, NIT Calicut is somewhat ahead of CET in many factors.
