You should be familiar with the overall exam pattern. One of the essential criteria is to make section-wise preparation to earn a good score. FTII question paper consists of two sections: section 1, and section 2.

In the following, an overview of the exam pattern of the FTII entrance exam is given:

Section 1:

  • Exam Type: MCQ
  • Syllabus Covered:
    • General Awareness (both international and national)
    • Mental Ability (Mathematical Reasoning)
    • Indian History, arts, culture, music, architecture, folk-art, television and cinema

Section 2:

  • Exam Type: Subjective
    • For Example: (General Description)
      • Name one character and elaborate on the performance from the movies you have seen recently.
      • What is your personal idea for the costume design? Is it worth the recognition?
      • How do you prepare for a role after studying the script? Will you face any difficulties?
      • Do you think that acting is the most challenging profession? Why/why not.
  • Syllabus Covered:
    • This section is designed to test the candidate’s ability towards the specific cinematic expressions.

In the following, the mark division for each question from both of these sections is given.

Section 1

Section 2

15+15+20=50

(General Awareness: 15 marks

Mental Ability: 15 marks

Indian History, arts, culture, music, architecture, folk-art, television and cinema: 15 marks)

5*10= 50 (In this section total 8 questions are given, in which the students have to answer 5, each with 10 marks)

The following important books for FTII are recommended:

  • A Journey Through 100 Years of Indian Cinema: A Cinema Quiz Book.
  • History of Indian Cinema.
  • Deep Focus: Reflection on Indian Cinema.
  • Speaking of Films by Satyajit Ray.
  • Get Trained and Be A Star: Update Your Acting and Direction Skills.

Thus, how to prepare for any course of FTII cannot be said, as there is no fixed syllabus for the subjective test of this entrance. FTII entrances also do not have any negative marking; thereby, the students need to prepare from the different facets of a film and the film making policies.

  • For example: In the entrance test for acting, the admission team mainly evaluates the student's passion towards acting, and sometimes they wish to see some of the acting skills also at the time of interview.

Thus, it can be stated that besides the theoretical study, you should prepare some tricks of acting to impress the interviewer at the time of interview. For this reason, you must learn a few acting tricks from the online video, along with dialogues and stage presentation.
