Is it possible to earn a B.Tech from a regular college and a BSc from IGNOU simultaneously?

Yes, any student can pursue a BSc from IGNOU along with a BTech from a regular college simultaneously. Students pursuing a regular degree from any college can pursue a Diploma, an Advanced Diploma, or a Certificate Program from an open college like IGNOU.

Students should keep the following factors in mind before making the decision regarding the same.

Rules Regarding Dual Degrees and Distance Education:

On May 22, 2020, the proposal allowing students to pursue two degrees together was approved by the UGC. These are the features of that proposal.

• Students can pursue one of the degrees in the regular mode while the other can be in an open or distance mode.

• Students can pursue two degrees in different streams as well, provided they are offered by different institutions.

• Students will be able to choose a single institution if multiple methods and programs are offered by it.

Also, according to the Distance Education Council Meet which was held on June 8, 2012, Students could pursue the following in the manner listed below-

• One Degree could be pursued with either one Diploma or a PG Diploma or a Certificate Program.

• One PG Diploma could be pursued with one Diploma or Certificate Program

• One Diploma could be pursued with one Certificate Program.

• Two PG Diplomas could be pursued.

• Two Diplomas could be pursued together.

• And, two Certificate Programs could be studied together as well.

Another important point to be noted as the reason for one degree to be in distance/online mode is due to the fact that a minimum amount of attendance is needed in a regular degree program.

Students must note that the aforementioned criteria for BTech is general criteria. Students will have to check the respective college's brochure or website for the eligibility criteria if they wish to apply to that program. Entrance exams will have to be taken in both cases.
