To get a 9.6+ CGPA in your first year at Thapar University, follow these tips with diligence-

  1. Learn about CLO’s - Course Learning Objectives for each subject.
  2. Sit in the front rows and listen to the lectures attentively.
  3. Pay ample attention to the theoretical part of your course.
  4. Solve all the tutorial sheets on your own. Seeking help is acceptable but do not copy.
  5. Go through the previous year question papers and solve those questions.
  6. Set a target for 75% in each exam. This will help you achieve your goal.
  7. Always sleep well the night before the exam. Do not forget to take your calculator, Id card and stationery to the exam hall.

I would also like to break down the entire marking scheme for you. At Thapar University, there are around 47 credit points for all the subjects of 1st year. Therefore, you must secure 452 credit points by the end of your first year (47*9.6). Make sure to not get below A- in any subject.

As far as A grades are concerned, you will get an A grade for 29/47+ credit points. Credit per subject ranges from 2.5 to 5, mark the top 7 subjects in which your aggregate credits will make up more than 29. Approach your teachers and ask them how many marks would you need to score an A in their subject. If they do not give you a clear answer, ask them about the situation in the previous year. This way you will get a better picture of how much you need to score.

Getting a 9.5+ CGPA in your first year at Thapar is a bit difficult but not impossible. For this, you will have to stay in the list of top 90-100 students in your batch.
