One of my cousins is a recent graduate of Thapar University and he does not recommend enrolling at the institute anytime soon. Here is a detailed scenario of his experience,

He was a mechanical engineering student and the university is not what it claims because the placement of the batch hardly even touched the 50% peak.
The quality of education is not as much as students typically anticipate during their course period.
The teachers are not as supportive. If you are not extremely frank with the faculty, you will not usually acquire a decent amount of scores.
It will be better to opt for Jaypee Institute, UPTU, or any particular NIT over Thapar University since the fee structure might be an issue and you will not secure good grades.
The placement statistics of certain technical branches are deteriorating day by day.
However, students in CSE department are still performing decently, regarding both their course and placement.

It is best to still analyze and research more about the prospects of Thapar University.
