The points below give a brief overview of some of the key advantages and realities faced by students in institutes like IIT Madras.
  • The IIT tag adds to the personality of students. Everyone starts congratulating the student and juniors start to follow their principles.
  • There is a so-called t-shirt obsession as noticed by students of IIT Madras. Wearing cheesy T-shirts and name imprinted jerseys is common among students in IIT Madras.
  • The main aspect being in IIT Madras is that students find themselves among the best students in the country, starting to complete a vast course from the beginning.
  • Usually, every class of IIT Madras has some overachiever students, which creates a lot of competition among students. No student feels himself/herself to be special among a crowd inside IITs, as almost everyone is of an above-average standard.
  • You have to start running in an actual rat race to be alive in the extreme competition of the institute. The first-semester result gives a brief idea of your standard and how good you are in academics.
  • You have to decide what you want to be, being in the institute. You can either be good at studies with an extreme effort in academics, enjoy the IIT life with extra-curricular activities, or do both if you can adjust well to each.
So, for students who are quite serious about their academics, IIT Madras is an excellent place, having erudite professors and sheer quality of peers all around. IITs also implant leadership and management skills in a student through participation in student bodies, fests, etc.
