According to some of my friends studying at IIT Madras, it is one of the best institutes in India for technical studies and research works in science and engineering. Although there is peer pressure among Ph.D. researchers, there are several advantages of doing a Ph.D. at IIT Madras, some of which are listed below.

  • The infrastructure at IITM is excellent with well-equipped laboratories.
  • Having a 24-hour power supply and an uninterrupted internet connection of high-speed limits in both academic buildings and hostels adds to the benefits.
  • There is no concept of night curfews in IITM. You can use their nighttime for academic tasks.
  • The library is accessible till midnight whereas labs are accessible 24 hours.
  • Eateries inside the campus of IITM are open till midnight.
  • There is a free gym inside the campus. You can also join the hostel’s sports teams.
  • There are several types of groups and clubs inside the campus, starting from cultural to charity-based clubs, which are enough for anyone to learn several new things.
  • You will have the opportunity to get involved in any sort of extra-curricular learning at very less or even no cost at all.
  • There is a guidance and counseling unit at IITM, named Mitr. It is to help students get rid of their tensions related to academics and other affairs.
  • The annual techno and cultural fests of IITM, namely Shaastra and Saarang, are huge in scale.

Therefore, having a lot of advantages, IIT Madras is one of the best places for a Ph.D. in India. Students, who can withstand the pressure of research, would surely make the best out of it, being in the institute.
