How is Aliah University for studies?
A friend of mine completed his B.Tech Mechanical from Aliah University a few years back. The university operates from three campuses.
The first one is at Park Circus, where Arts, Mass Communication, etc. are taught. The second campus is at Newton. It imparts various courses on Science & Engineering and Management. The third campus is at Taltala, and courses on Islamic Studies are offered in it.
The university is quite affordable, and has a nominal fee structure. The hostel facilities are provided at a nominal fee. The practical labs aren’t modern, and need an upgrade. The infrastructure is overall in need of improvement.
The teaching standards of the faculty are below average, but there surely are some who teach really well. Self study will be your only savior. The university lags behind in co-curricular activities and sports. The campus is seriously affected by politics and political tussle. The placement scenario is very grim, and you’ll have to find jobs off campus, by yourself.
Thus, I wouldn’t recommend you consider Aliah University as your first choice. The university is quite affordable, but there are several areas it needs to work on.
How do I reach Aliah University Newtown Campus from Howrah station or Bally station by public transport?
To reach Aliah University these are some of the options:
Bally Station to Aliah University Newtown by a Direct Bus.
- The fare will be INR 15.
- First go to Bally Station and walk up to Bally Railway Over Bridge. Take the stairs and you will see buses parked there.
- Go to the bus written ‘Karunamoyee and Bally Halt’.
- You can also take the SSBTC bus. It will take you directly to Aliah University.
Bally Station to Aliah University, Newtown via Dakshineswar.
- The Fare is INR 7(Bally to Dakshineswar) + INR 14 (Dakshineswar to Aliah University).
- From Bally Station walk up to Bally Railway Over Bridge. Take the stairs up.
- From the parked busses take the bus to Dakshineswar.
- Get down at Dakshineswar Bus Stop.
- Walk to Dakshineswar Bus Stand.
- Take the DN2/1 Bus. It will get you directly to Aliah University.
Bally Station to Aliah University, Newtown (AC Bus)
- The Fair is INR 35.
- From Bally Station walk up to Bally Railway Over Bridge. Take the stairs up.
- Board the bus AC23. It will take you directly to Aliah University.
Howrah Station to Aliah University, Newtown (Direct Bus)
- Walk to Howrah Station Bus Stand.
- Board the bus 30B/1. It will drop you directly at Aliah University.
Howrah Station to Aliah University Newtown (via Narkel Bagan) (AC Bus)
- Go to Howrah Station Bus Stand.
- Board the Bus AC12.
- Get down at Unitech.
- Take a bus to reach Aliah University.

Which one is better for CS, Makaut or Aliah University?
The Colleges under Makaut are much better than Aliah University in all respects. They have a better curriculum, experienced faculty and provide students with the proper exposure and opportunities required to build their career.
If you have a rank around 10,000 in WBJEE, then you can opt for colleges like Techno India, IEM, Heritage Institute of Technology, Meghnad Shah, Netaji, etc.
But if your rank is enough to qualify for these colleges, then you can go for Aliah University. The placements here are not up to the mark but if you work hard you can sit for off-campus placements and secure a job via that.
What are the buses available from Sealdah Station to Aliah University?
The direct bus available from Sealdah to Aliah University, Newtown campus is NDSTC which runs from Santaragachi to Aliah University via Sealdah.
But there are other buses which you can avail.
From Sealdah you can take buses like S12 or anyone coming towards Newtown. After reaching Newtown there are lots of buses like 211B, S30, 42, etc. by which you can reach Aliah University.
