Are AIIMS, PGIMER, and JIPMER overrated?

No, I don't think excellent medical colleges like AIIMS, PGIMER, and JIPMER are in any way overrated. They deserve the hype they receive. The patients consider JIPMER doctors as the human form of God. They trust them blindly and also respect them a lot.

Apart from the highly experienced and educated doctors, JIPMER has some amazing facilities. Most of the departments are well-established with highly qualified doctors. The best department of JIPMER is said to be Pediatrics with the best doctor pool.

As far as academics are concerned, the UG curriculum is well-organized. The students are taken to clinics regularly and are confident about their basic clinical skills. The best past us exposure to all sorts of cases from Male breast cancer to life-threatening emergencies and all kinds of surgeries and non-surgical cases. Recently JIPMER has started focusing on specialized surgeries in the Super Speciality departments.

The campus life is great and the hostel facilities are no less than 5-star hotels. Students are allotted single rooms and the campus is green and beautiful.

Considering everything, facilities, education, and campus life I feel JIPMER is not overrated at all.

Which is better for an MS in General Surgery: AIIMS, JIPMER or PGI?

AB

Surgery can’t be read and understood. Also, no matter the number of simulations you run through, practicing on a human body is very different.

Now, with their limited number of beds, these institutions perform complex surgeries through protocol defining procedures. As a resident at these, you won’t perform many surgeries. Also, you’ll have a limited exposure to trivial diseases. On the flip side, you’ll witness some of the best surgeons at work, and access top notch technology. To master surgery, you’ll have to become an SR at these institutions.

But at a decent government college hospital, the volume of patients is very high. As a result, you’ll be pushed into the OT. So you’ll get good practice, under proper supervision. However, at these colleges, protocols take a back seat. You’ll have to compromise with low funding as a resident at these institutions.

I would personally recommend going for a decent government college. But you should choose according to your own preferences.

I am an MD Dermatology Junior Resident at JIPMER. I can give you some details about my college.

During the first 6 months of your MD, your working hours will be from 7am to 9pm for most days. Working hours may change depending on the number of patients admitted. Your working hours will decrease for the next 6 months.

During the second year, you’ll work from 8am to 6pm. You’ll have to work for two hours extra in case of an admission under you. In the final year, you’ll work from 8am to 5pm. After that you’ll be relieved from the ward, only OP.

This is the schedule for MD Dermatology students at JIPMER.

Which is better, PGI Chandigarh, PGIMS Rohtak or SMS Jaipur?

PGIMER Chandigarh is one of the best medical institutes in India.

Its academic curriculum is matched by only a few other medical colleges. Apart from this, it offers advanced research facilities, dedicated faculties, and highly enthusiastic peers.

If you are planning to pursue your PG and get a desirable specialty at PGI, join the college without second thoughts. Although the work pressure is huge in most branches, the environment makes you well-trained for your medical career.

PGIMER Chandigarh offers really good medical studies, and you’ll learn a lot as a part of it. Thus, PGIMER Chandigarh is better than PGIMS Rohtak and SMS Jaipur.

What is the number of MD/MS seats at PGIMER Chandigarh?

PR
Praniti Ranjan, Posted On : November 23rd, 2021
M.B.B.S from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad (2018)

The number of MD/MS seats at PGIMER Chandigarh changes every year, every session, according to your category (General, OBC, SC, ST, Sponsored, etc.) and branch or department.

This is because for every session admission to the vacant seats is based on the previous pass-outs in that branch or department. It also depends on the demand of a particular work in that department and other factors.

Check the JSP Page website - pgimer.edu.in before every session to get the exact number of seats available in that particular session.

This session there are a total of 148 seats and 33 of them are for the General category students.

Which is a better institution for doing a post graduation SGPGI Lucknow or PGI Chandigarh?

SK
Suresh Kumar Posted On : October 14th, 2021
M.Sc. Medical Biotechnology from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh (2017)

Both SGPI Lucknow and PGI Chandigarh are esteemed medical institutes of the country. Here are some of the facts I thought were worth mentioning.

  • The institute that offers students practical work to develop enhanced skills should be the one to opt for.
  • Such an institute is Chandigarh PGIMER.
  • It is reckoned as one the best institutes after Delhi AIMS for postgraduate and Ph.D. Programs.
  • PGI Chandigarh is an autonomous institute and is under the central government whereas SGPI is an autonomous is an institute under the legislature act (UP Government)
  • Although both the institutes are in the same league with AIIMS Delhi, every institute has its own benefits.
  • PGI Chandigarh provides the best facilities to its students in the PG courses such as the clinical seats.
  • Such a facility is not offered to the students in SGPI but is an exception when it comes to super specialty.

You should also consider the distance of these institutes from your residence. As it is one of the important things while choosing a college. Decide which one meets all your requirements and then opt accordingly.

Among VMMC, UCMS and PGIMER (and the RML hospital) which is the best for an MD in general medicine?

SS
Siddharth Sengupta Posted On : November 22nd, 2021
M.B.B.S from University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi (2021)

Among the three option mentioned, PGIMER and RML hospital is the best option for doing an MD in General Medicine. It offers great exposure and academics. The spectrum of cases, facilities available, quality of care offered is exceptional. Other than Oncology, you will have exposure to all subspecialties.

UCMS is almost in the same range. However, it has a locational disadvantage. Other than that the spectrum of cases and academics offered at the institute is quite good.

VMMC is also a decent option. But it has a high patient load. Academics are really poor and you will have to go out of your way to learn things.

How should someone prepare for NEET-PG/ AIIMS-PG/ JIPMER-PG/ PGIMER/ SGPGIMS/ NIMHANS right from 1st year of MBBS?

BR
Barnamala Roy Posted On : November 25th, 2021
studied at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry

Here are some of the things that you can do to prepare for these examinations right from the first year onwards.

  • Don’t just mug up the syllabus right before the examination. You won’t remember the things that you read in long term and won’t be able to apply in MCQs.
  • Check the previous year’s question papers of the examination that you are targeting. Mark them and practice.
  • Understand the examination pattern. In the new pattern, one question requires knowledge of 3-4 subjects. You have to be able to apply basic knowledge of the subjects to solve it.
  • Attend dissection and all Physiology and Biochemistry practicals mindfully. This will help in Pathology.

Be serious about your studies. Plan everything before and go about it at your own pace.
