Yes, MIT is a part of Anna University, despite the fact that, unlike the other three, it is not physically located on the university campus (CEG, ACT, and SAP).

Regarding the second question, there is no discrimination at Anna University as a whole because each student from each of the four campuses is treated equally, just as the NIRF does with Anna University. However, college is important when applying for jobs or for higher education, and a CEG student would unquestionably be a more desirable candidate because CEG is more prestigious and was the first to be established.

However, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, a distinguished alumnus of MIT, is the reason for its greater fame.

All Engineering colleges of Tamil Nadu are controlled by Anna University. Madras Institute of Technology comes under Anna University and is part of the University Departments.

CEG and MIT differentiated in terms of the brand value of Anna University because MIT is located at some other campus. Usually, outsiders don’t see MIT as part of Anna University and call it University’s Guindy campus. Local companies also differentiate between CEG and MIT campus.

The colleges in Tamil Nadu are classified as follows:

1) Autonomous Colleges: There are a total of 20 Autonomous Colleges in Tamil Nadu. These colleges get approval from Anna University. But runs individually and have their own syllabus, administration, evaluation, etc.

2) Regional Campuses and Aided Colleges: There are seven Government Aided Colleges in Tamil Nadu. Apart from that, Anna University has four Regional Campuses in Madurai, Tiruchirapalli, Coimbatore, and Tirunelveli.

3) University Departments: Tamil Nadu has four University Departments. They are as follows - College of Engineering (CEG); Madras Institute of Technology (MIT); Alagappa College of Technology (ACT); School of Architecture and Planning (SAP).

4) Self Financing Colleges: These are private institutes that come under Anna University. All examinations, syllabus, are managed by Anna University and not by the college.

Therefore, Madras Institute of Technology is part of Anna University. Both the campuses CEG and MIT have their own brand value and standard, so you can choose any of them.
