IEM Kolkata is one of the reputed engineering colleges in West Bengal, and it has a good track record of placing its students in top companies through campus placements. The institute has collaborations with various companies and industries, which provide internship opportunities to the students.

Some of the popular companies that offer internships to the students of IEM Kolkata include TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, IBM, Microsoft, Deloitte, and Amazon, among others. The internships can be both paid and unpaid, depending on the company's policies and the student's performance during the internship.

The institute also has a dedicated placement cell that provides assistance to students in finding internships and placements. The placement cell conducts various training programs, workshops, and mock interviews to prepare the students for the placement process.

The placement cell also invites top companies to the campus for conducting placement drives. Some of the companies that visit the campus for placements include Google, Adobe, Samsung, Cisco, Infosys, and Accenture, among others. The placement percentage of IEM Kolkata is usually high, with a majority of the students getting placed in top companies every year.

Despite having a decent placement cell, IEM does not offer enough internships for its students. I know more about the EE department as a friend of mine is pursuing EE at IEM.

For the EE department, the campus drive does not arrange any internship or VT. You will need to arrange one on your own. According to my friend, getting an internship is easy if you have any contact with the company, you want to intern in. Although it is difficult to build a connection in the web of companies. Sometimes, they don’t even check your mails.

The scenario regarding internships is almost the same for all the branches. Though recently I heard the college will give internship opportunities to CSE students, provided they maintain a good attendance record.

The bottom line is that your CV should have at least one internship or VT. So, try to arrange it as early as possible.
