MBA from Indian Institute of Management Shillong

In 2021, due to the pandemic situation, IIM Shillong conducted interviews online. The case-based GD round was scrapped. So, the IIM Shillong PI weightage for the 2021 selection was 70 percent. The remaining 30 percent was given to the CAT score.

The interview panel included two professors for most cases. Students were first asked questions based on their interests and background. There were a few questions based on their field of graduation. There were a few general questions like ‘Why MBA?’, AND ‘Why IIM Shillong?’ as well.

If you are a fresher, make sure that you are well-versed in the subjects covered in your graduation stream. Stay updated with the current affairs. Read up on IIM Shillong. You will definitely get questions from these topics, during your interview.

The interview experience may vary from student to student. However, one of my cousin’s brothers shared his interview experience and feels fortunate for the opportunity.

His interview was scheduled for 20th March 2017, in the morning slot. He was the last candidate in his interview panel to be called for the entire interview process. However, before he called for the interview, he talked with the other candidates who already attended the interview. He mentioned all of them had a better profile, including the CAT scores. Some were experienced also.

On entering, formal greetings were exchanged, thus beginning the procedure. The panel consisted of both males and females in their 40s.

The following questions were asked during his interview -

  • They began asking questions about his grades, his overall performance to which he said he did his engineering projects well to get only the marks and he did not feel to work extra.
  • Next, he was asked that as he is from Chandigarh, what symbol will welcome him. He replied that it is that open hand. He was also asked about the Westminster Parliament as he had some Parliamentary debating. In reply to this, he said that it is the system followed by the British.
  • After this type of casual questionnaire, he was asked whether he knew DC, to which he said that yes, he knew him, and he was the car designer, based out of entire India.
  • Following he was asked the differences between the car, which DC and the Honda, designed. He replied that DC mainly focused on the design front and made mostly the cars with a limited edition. On the contrary, Honda manufactures mainstream cars.
  • Besides, he was also asked some technical questions, representing some basic sense of mechanical engineering of my cousin brother.

The interviewers also offered him fistful candies, as he did not eat anything since the morning, and one female interviewer also offered him an Apple from her bag.

Then he thanked them and left. He came out from the interview room and managed his files and looked at the other candidates' faces.

Thus, the student may face something like this at the time of interview in the IIM Shillong, this experience will vary from individual to individual. Thus no exact pattern is followers when it comes to interviews.
