How is life at IIM Shillong?

IIM Shillong offers a good campus experience. The professors are friendly, supportive, and well-qualified. You can get their help regarding any academic-related problems. The departmental library has an excellent collection of books. Peer-to-peer learning opportunities are ample, thanks to the fairly heterogeneous mix of student backgrounds.

Staying on the IIM Shillong campus is somewhat surreal. Waking up to clouds forming just outside of the window or double rainbows making a bridge between two mountain tops are regular occurrences.

IIM Shillong is a great college and the college life has its pros and cons. The institute is currently functioning from a temporary campus inthe Mayurbhanj Complex. The construction for a permanent 120-acre campus is ongoing. Most importantly, the location of the institute is surreal. You can witness mountains and rainbows from your hostels’ window.

Mentioned below are a few pros and cons of the institute:

Pros:

Professors: IIM Shillong has a really good, supportive and friendly group of professors. They are highly qualified and academically-oriented with ample experience in their respective field.
Library: The central library of IIM Shillong is well-equipped and updated. It has some of the oldest and rarest books, magazines and journals in the world. For a new IIM, the central library is quite impressive.
Peer to Peer Learning: The college provides a high level of peer group learning just like its available in other IIMs. The college selects an impressive group of students every year; the group is a heterogeneous blend of culture, thought, region and experience. You will definitely learn a lot of everyday interactions.

Cons: One of the demerits of the college was the director of IIM Shillong: Prof. Amitabh De. He wasn’t the best candidate for the post. However, Prof. D P Goyal has replaced him and been appointed the new director of IIM Shillong.

IIM Shillong is a good business school with a great placement record. The college is located in one of the most beautiful places in India yet the college life at IIM Shillong has its merits and demerits just like at any other college.
