An MS in Management Information System from the University of Buffalo is a short and convenient course.

  • UB’s MIS caters to students with varied work experience and profiles. There are students with zero to more than seven years of work experience.
  • Many of the courses taught in the program are industry-sponsored. So, you will get good industry exposure.
  • University of Buffalo MIS fees are $15,264 for the NYS residents. The estimated total cost is around $27,054 for non-resident students.
  • UB’s MIS program has an employment rate of 94% within 6 months of graduation. The average base salary is recorded to be $229,600, while the average base salary is $83,996.

It is a fantastic program, especially for students with few years of experience. The close proximity to NYC will help you get better job opportunities.

Masters Information Systems, Northeastern University (2018)

If you ask me to pick between both, you can consider SUNY Buffalo as it is a really good option for students who want to do MIS in a shorter duration. This course will take 1 year only and even ranking or reputation wise it’s pretty good. SUNY Buffalo ranks at 88th place in National Universities rankings and also has relatively cheaper fees. On average, NEU grads earn 73,000-121,000 USD depending on the field and experience. SUNY grads also have a decent salary ranging from 69,000-128,000 USD as per emolument.

Still, both have a very different curriculum. SUNY Buffalo and Northeastern University follow different paths when it comes to MIS, the difference is huge in courses of both the universities.

  • Northeastern University’s MIS program is loaded more with technical knowledge and it relies heavily on programming.
  • SUNY Buffalo with its MIS program relies more importance on management-oriented approach and this is tailor made for people who have a good amount of work experience.
  • Getting into SUNY Buffalo should not be too hard as it has an acceptance rate of 61%.
  • Student-faculty ratio at SUNY Buffalo is 14:1 and the school has 30% of its classes with students less than 20 students.
  • SUNY Buffalo offers 54% of its full time undergraduate students need based financial aid and the average scholarship or grant award is $7,811.
  • Northeastern University offers its MIS program for a duration of 2 years. The fees charged by Northeastern University is $48000 for the first year.
  • Northeastern University ranks 49t place in National Universities rankings. It has a student-faculty ratio of 14:1 and 68.3 of its classes have students less than 20.

You can weigh their pros and cons and then make up your mind about deciding which college you want to go to.If you want to get more knowledge about the technical aspects and are okay with higher fees to be paid then go for Northeastern. If you are working professional with a decent work experience and want to have more knowledge about the management approach then go for SUNY. It will give you what you need by having to pay less fees as compared to Northeastern.
