I am a student of NIT Surathkal, and this is my unbiased perspective on the topic-
The peers, seniors, technical forums, communities and alumni of a college impact its students’ learning to a huge extent. It is not just about the seniors’ mentoring, their achievements motivate the juniors and help in setting a healthy competitive environment.
In this respect, NITK is way ahead of the newly formed 3rd generation IITs like IIT Dharwad or Palakkad. NITK is a great college. It has a good learning culture, and a great bond between faculty and students.
But then, a new college will allow you to set up its culture. Plus, the faculty will give you more attention at these newly formed IITs. Moreover, these colleges carry the prestigious ‘IIT’ tag.
If you want to enjoy more freedom and individuality, join IIT Dharwad. But if you want a rich crowd and alumni network, and an extremely competitive environment, opt for NIT Surathkal.
