B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur

Interacting with your seniors and people working in the core sector will convince you that Mechanical Engineering at NIT JSR is a far superior option to mining.

Mechanical Engineering at NIT JSR will provide you with numerous opportunities and will help you advance your career. Furthermore, mining is not a female-friendly field, and the working conditions are deplorable.

So, without hesitation, you should pursue Mechanical at NIT JSR because the opportunities are vast and the placements are excellent.

B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2019)

It’s difficult to determine which institute is better because the courses in the question are different. However, if a choice has to be made between the two colleges, one can look at the different criteria.

NIT Surathkal (Mining):

NIT Surathkal was ranked 21st by NIRF ranking in 2019. The mining branch at NIT Surathkal has very specific placements in coalfield companies such as Coal India.

In the first year, semester 1 the students are taught courses like Elementary Mechanical Engineering, Elementary Electrical Engineering, Introduction to Computer Programming, Engineering Graphics, Physics, chemistry, etc. They are revising the basic class 12th standard and the knowledge given to them is the extension of previously studied chapters. In the second year, all the teaching is the branch related where the students will be taught subjects related to mining.

Admissions:

  • The admission to BTech Mining is through JEE Mains.
  • Candidates should pass class 12th with at least 75% marks in the science stream in order to be eligible for admission.
  • The first-year course fee is 1.51 lakhs.

Placement:

  • The highest and average CTC offered is 39 LPA and 14 LPA.
  • Some of the top recruiters that come to the college include Honeywell, Axis Bank, Myntra Logistics, Amazon, McAfee, Samsung r&d, HSBC technology, Wells Fargo, Microsoft, Byjus, City Bank, Oyo, Epsilon India, Wipro India, Walmart, Snap lab.

NIT Jamshedpur for Mechanical Engineering:

NIT Jamshedpur is ranked 52nd by NIRF 2020 for BTech.

Admission:

  • The BTech admission is through JEE Mains. In 2019 the closing cutoff for Mechanical was 35515 (home state) and 22026 (other states).
  • Candidates should pass class 12th with at least 75% marks in the science stream in order to get admission.
  • The first-year course fees are 1.88 lakhs

Placement:

The highest package offered was 39 LPA whereas the average package was recorded to be 8 LPA.

Both the colleges are up to the mark and standards, they provide basic infrastructure and good placements. Therefore, if a choice has to be made between the three colleges, a student can go through the above-mentioned facts.
