IIT Bhubaneswar is among the new IITs as it was established in 2008. It has many facilities with well-furnished labs and highly qualified and well-trained faculty.

Sports are an integral part of IIT Bhubaneswar and it has its own Gymkhana club. The club organizes regular events in many domains like sports, music, tech, cultural activities, fests, workshops, etc. The institute has its own indoor basketball court, Volleyball court, Table tennis court, badminton court, swimming pool, etc. They also have sports grounds for football and cricket.

Inter-IIT tournaments also take place in every academic year. The winners are awarded trophies by the Director of the institute at the sports ceremony. A sports secretary is elected from every year by all the students who will later have the responsibility of conducting a variety of tournaments and is authorized to take care of all the sports equipment. A well-equipped gym is present at individual hostels to ensure student’s fitness and sound health. Cricket nets, Volleyball, Basketball and indoor courts, etc. are also provided to students.

Football in IIT Bhubaneswar is equipped with necessary requirements. Every year a football tournament is organized where students compete against each other. A General Championship is also held in which every department has to compete against one another. Also, an initiative is taken to organize the Mahanadi Premier League (MPL). Other than that students also participate in sports festivals of colleges in and outside Bhubaneswar.

The sports secretaries also organized the Gully Cricket tournament, which is played in a very small area (like a classroom) with all new rules which will be apt for it. Cricket in the Sports grounds is also played and Cricket nets are provided for the students to practice.
