Should I take electrical engineering at IIT Ropar or CSE at PES University RR campus? 

The deciding factor here is the branch in which you feel apt according to your interest. IIT Ropar offers a B.Tech degree in Electrical engineering and has been ranked 25th for the Engineering category in India by NIRF 2020.

If you are inclined towards coding then pursuing Computer science at PES University must be your priority. Ranked 93 for engineering by NIRF in 2020, PES offers a b.tech degree in CSE as its flagship course.

Admission:

IIT Ropar:

• Candidates must clear JEE Advanced for admission in B.Tech electrical engineering at IIT Ropar.
• For admission in the electrical engineering branch, category wise cut off is as follows;
  • General - 3304-4388
  • OBC - 1429-2086
  • SC - 941-1174

PES University:

• Besides accepting K-CET and JEE main test scores, PES University conducts its own entrance exam- PESSAT for B.tech admission.
• KCET rank under 450 and was considered as a cutoff for B.tech CSE admission in the first round previous year.
• Rank under 600 in PESSAT can also fetch a seat in the CSE branch at PESU.

Placement statistics:

IIT Ropar:

• 23 students were placed from the electrical engineering branch in 2019 out of 27 registered students.with an average package of 13.23 LPA
• Placement rate of the chemical engineering branch is around 50-60% with 30 students being placed this year with an average CTC of 7.5 LPA
• Highest CTC offered to date for the EE branch is 16 LPA.
• 70-80% of students avail summer internship opportunities through the institute.

PES University:

• 100+ companies participated in the campus recruitment process in 2020.
• 11 students were placed from CSE branch in Microsoft this year, with an average CTC of 39.2 LPA.
• Top recruiters in recent years include Accenture, Amazon, Bosch, HCL, HP.
• 851 students were placed in campus recruitment this year with an average CTC of 7LPA.
• The highest domestic CTC offered in 2020 for a CSE student is 48LPA by Atlassian.
• CSE department holds the record of a maximum number of placements till date with the current rate being 99.14%

Both IIT Ropar and PES University offer quality education and have good placement records. Opting either of the Institutes can turn fruitful to the aspirants when there is passion towards the branch selected.
