When an NRI applies for admission to Anna University, the process is different from regular counseling. During the months of April and May, the application form for NRIs, CIWCGs, and foreign nationals is available. Your physics, chemistry, and mathematics test scores from your respective board will be used to determine which course or branch you will take.

A combined average of 50% in mathematics, physics, and chemistry is the minimum requirement for eligibility. An NRI counselor is assigned to each department to look after the needs of the students, assess their academic performance, and offer suggestions for improvement.

There are 3 categories for admission through Anna University NRI Quota:

Foreign National Quota:

  • You must hold a foreign passport.
  • Many Sri Lankans come into the college under this quota.
  • There has not been a single instance where a Foreign National student has been denied the branch of his choice.

CIWGC (Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf Countries):

  • It is a category for students or the parent sponsoring the student belongs to the Gulf countries.
  • These seats get filled up first during the counseling.

NRI Category:

  • Under this category, everyone can apply as long as the parent or the student is abroad.
  • Gulf students usually apply under both NRI and CIWGC categories.

Before the counseling, Anna University will release the rank list. You will be called according to your rank. For NRI students some colleges have international hostels with a lot of amenities.
