Both IIEST and IIIT are apex institutes. While IIEST has a legacy of its own, IIIT is relatively new but shows promise. CS and Mechanical are two of the most popular engineering branches in India. IIIT offers 150 seats in CS and IIEST offers 90 seats in ME.

  • IIEST: The campus is spread across 114 acres. The green campus, with three beautiful water bodies, is intertwined with modern technology and facilities.
  • IIIT Pune: It does not have a permanent campus and operates at Trinity Academy of Engineering.

Facilities

  • IIEST: The institute offers facilities like halls of residence, Library, Labs, Canteen, School, etc. It also provides medical facilities like hospitals and ambulances, sports and games clubs, and entrepreneurship activities.
  • IIIT Pune: Due to lack of a permanent campus, limited facilities including Clubs, Sports, Committees, Gymkhana, Labs, Training and Placement, Hostels, etc, are provided to the students.

Placement Statistics

  • IIEST: The highest package offered was 39.12 LPA and the top recruiting companies were ICICI Bank, Microsoft, Maruti, Cognizant, PWC, etc.
  • IIIT Pune: The highest package offered was 22 LPA. Top recruiting companies include Gojek, Bosch, Cadence, Amazon, Directi, etc.

Course Scope:

CS deals with designing and developing computer software and hardware processes. Major job sectors include Engineering firms, academic institutions, Sales and Marketing firms, IT/Software Companies, etc.

Mechanical Engineering involves the production, designing, and operations of machines. The employment sectors for ME include Research and Development (R&D), Design, Production, Analysis and Testing, Installation, Maintenance, etc.

Students must compare both the streams and colleges carefully. It is a personal decision and depends on an individual’s capabilities and expectations from college life.
