What should I choose, IIT Mandi for electrical and IIT Bhubaneswar for ECE or IIT Ropar?
As a student of ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar, I can provide you some insight into my college/department-
- IIT Bhubaneswar has experienced faculty with strong research backgrounds.
- It has advanced laboratories with well maintained equipment.
- IIT BBSR emphasises research and innovation.
- It has strong industry collaborations for internships and placements.
- The ECE curriculum at IIT BBSR is well-structured.

The NIRF rankings speak for themselves, with IIT Bhubaneswar far ahead. IIT Bhubaneswar has a better academic structure for both of these courses. When comparing 2022 to 2021, the number of offers made during IIT BBS placement increased by nearly 40%.

The highest package and average package of IIT Bhubaneswar are INR 44.10 per month and INR 18.95 per month respectively. On the other hand, IIT Ropar has the highest package of INR 50 LPA and the average package of INR 15.85 LPA.
According to some unofficial online sources, the average package for B.tech courses at IIT Mandi in 2022 has been INR 24.1 LPA. The average package for BTech CSE was the highest, standing at INR 28.6 LPA.

It’s difficult to choose a single college as all three of the IIT have their own merits. All three IITs rank under the top 30 in NIRF rankings.
Indian Institute Of Technology, Mandi, was ranked at 20 according to 2019 NIRF Rankings. IIT Mandi holds good placement records. In 2019, 62.5% of electrical engineering students got placement offers. Some of the companies that offered pre placements at IIT Mandi during 2019-20 include Microsoft, (the top PPO recruiter with eleven PPOs), Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Robert Bosch, Optum, SMS Datatech, Tonichi Insatsu, etc.
According to 2019 NIRF Rankings,Indian Institute Of Technology, Bhubaneswar came at 26 among all the engineering colleges in India. ECE is a new branch in IIT Bhubaneswar, it started in 2016. IIT Bhubaneswar’s first ECE branch will graduate in 2020. But the placement record for other branches was good, around 10 LPA for Electrical Engineering.
IIT Ropar ranks in the top ten engineering colleges in India. In 2019, the placement record shows 90% of the students got placed in the top recruiting companies with an average salary package of INR 13.83 LPA. Different engineering branches have placement records: CSE(91.8%), ME(64.0%), EE(85.19%).
All three IITs, IIT Ropar, IIT Mandi, IIT Bhubaneswar are good choices with their own pros and cons so it’s up to you to make the decision wisely.
