BS-MS from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune

For applied Physics, NIT Calicut will be a better option. You will learn how to analyze and solve real-world problems using Physics. NIT Calicut placements are good for Engineering Physics. The placement rate for the branch was around 60%. Students of the branch usually receive an average CTC of around INR 27 LPA.

IISER Pune is essentially a science institute. If you are more interested in learning the theoretical aspects of Physics, IISER will be the right place for you.

The answer to this question completely depends upon your interest in the field of physics. If you are more interested in pursuing applied physics, which deals with the direct application of physics in analyzing and solving real-world problems, then you must opt for engineering physics at NIT Calicut.

If you are interested in pure physics, which involves much more theoretical concepts with a lesser degree of the direct application when compared to engineering physics, you should opt for IISER.

Some things that make IISER stand out -

  • This institute lets you explore other areas of science other than physics like biology, chemistry, earth, and climate science, etc.
  • Unlike NIT, here, you will have courses that will include biology, chemistry, maths, humanities, and social sciences, earth and climate science for the first two years.
  • It is compulsory for all the BS-MS students to take up these courses and you get the choice of choosing these courses in your third year.

Therefore you get a flavor of all the fields of science which helps you in developing a scientific and research-based temperament.
