It's not always necessary to strive for being a topper in the new IIMs. Instead, aim to be an average student at IIM A, B, and C. Even if you end up being an average performer, you will not regret it. The reason is, the experience you will gain from being an average student at IIM A, B, and C will be much more enriching than just being a topper in the new IIMs.

To do something truly amazing with your career, it's essential to surround yourself with people who are at different levels of knowledge and experience. Try to be with people whose 33% is 10 times smarter than you, 33% is like you and 33% is below you. This way, you will be constantly learning from the smartest people and at the same time, you will also be able to help and guide those who are below you.

If you want to build a successful company, it's always a good idea to seek advice and guidance from those who have already achieved that level of success. For example, if you want to build an INR 10 million worth company, talk to the person who has built INR 100 million worth company. They will be able to provide you with valuable insights and guidance on how to achieve your goals.

In conclusion, being an average student at IIM A, B, and C may not seem as glamorous as being a topper in the new IIMs, but the experience and knowledge you will gain from it will be much more valuable in the long run. So, instead of just focusing on being a topper, focus on the enriching experience you will gain from being an average student at IIM A, B, and C.

IIMs will offer you the best Brand Value and it matters the most. An MBA aspirant will look for placements, ROI, teaching culture, and campus.

You can be an average student at an average college and still do wonders. Being a topper or average student things don’t work in the real world. A lot depends on what you are doing with your career. You can get a great job even if you are an average student.

A top IIM gives you these things over new IIMs:

  • You won’t get the enriching experience at the new IIMs.
  • Better placement opportunities at the top IIMs.
  • Better faculty and peer groups who are more competitive, more positive, and more open to carving their niche.
  • Being around places with smart people will help you better.

If you are a topper or not, this doesn’t necessarily mean anything good or bad. However, remember that the old IIMs have more value in the corporate and industrial world.
