Your chances of getting an interview call from the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) may not be very strong based on your academic performance. While IIMs do consider academic performance as a factor in the admissions process, it is primarily used to selectively shortlist candidates from a pool of applicants who have achieved adequate scores on the Common Admission Test (CAT). Additionally, the sectional cut-offs for CAT scores are an important consideration in evaluating applicants.

While it is certainly possible for you to apply to these colleges, a prudent option would be for you to consider taking the CAT again and aim for a 95+ percentile score. Additionally, it may also be beneficial for you to acquire a good score on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) in the meantime to boost your chances of being admitted to a top management institution.

Lastly, it is worth noting that your current CAT scores may still be sufficient to earn you an interview call from some reputable non-IIM management institutions. Therefore, it may be beneficial for you to broaden your search to include these options as well.

The minimum requirements for Management exams have reached heights suddenly due to the heavy competition, very fewer numbers of seats and etc. In today’s date, there are certain academics fulfillments required before you get into an IIM.

  • 10th and 12th class marks
  • CAT or any other National Management Exam score
  • Working experience and Profile

A lot of applicants are rejected basically due to the first criteria. The minimum requirement to get into IIM is quite high considering the level of academics. IIM only allows students who have secured 85% and 95% in 12th and 10th respectively.

If you have work experience then IIM will definitely have a preference for you rather than a candidate with no working experience. A work experience of 3 years or more will catch their attention if you score really well in the CAT exam.

Last year, the CAT percentile for top IIMs went up to 99.7 percentile. Selected students were then shortlisted on the basis of their initial grades and their working experience.
