IIM Shillong is a small IIM (with respect to campus size and popularity) compared to other well established IIM campuses across the country. What is important and relevant however, is that the campus has, in just over a decade grown to establish its place as one of the best B-schools in India.

Faculty

  • The campus boasts of a highly qualified faculty that is always available for its students’.
  • These lecturers that are currently 28 in number (as of 2020), are all PhD holders and very reputed in their respective specialties and assist in research projects conducted by the college.

Campus

  • The state of the art classrooms are another infrastructural plus at this campus. Moreover, the students are not required to make notes as they are mailed directly to them.
  • The college currently functions from a temporary campus in the Mayurbhanj complex. It was renovated by the Meghalaya government and was the summer palace of the Mayurbhanj King previously.
  • The permanent 120 acre campus is under construction and will soon be functional. Located at an altitude of about 1525 metres above sea level, the lush green campus is literally a ‘Campus amidst the clouds’.

The MBA at IIM Shillong is strictly residential. This ensures a well-managed hostel and other excellent infrastructural facilities like an auditorium, meeting halls etc. The hostel mess serves quality food and has a fixed menu which includes most Indian cuisines.

Course fee

  • The course fee for 1 year is approximately Rs 6.5 lakh. This includes the tuition fee, books, hostel fees, mess fee, internet and other basic amenities. You can thus see that the fees are much less when compared to other equivalent IIMs.
  • The campus also provides merit based scholarships to approximately 25 students in each batch (batch of 140).

Placement highlights

  • Average Salary up by 11.70% at Rs.18.76 LPA in 2020 from Rs.16.79 LPA in 2019.
  • Highest Salary up by 73% at Rs.48.50 LPA in 2020 from Rs.28 LPA last year
  • Top 20% and top 50% of the batch secured an average CTC of 29.17 LPA and 23.38 LPA respectively.
  • Median Salary stood at Rs.17 LPA
  • Consulting and Strategy emerged as the most sought after domain, accounting for 29% of the total offers received.
  • Top Recruiters include Bain Capability, ByteDance, Cognizant, Deloitte, FIITJEE, ICICI Bank, JP Morgan, Amazon, gsk, Pidilite, TATA Steel etc. who made the maximum number of offers.

In conclusion, the campus should be on your hit list if you are planning to get into a good IIM and considering a career in business management.
