Can I get IET Lucknow or KNIT Sultanpur in the spot round of counselling in the UPSEE if my general rank is 12000 and an OBC rank of 3000?

AR
Abhijeet Roy Posted On : August 6th, 2021
B.Tech from Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow (2018)

I have friends from both IET Lucknow and KNIT Sultanpur and according to them, you will not get any of IET Lucknow or KNIT Sultanpur with this rank. Your OBC rank will not be of any help as selections in the spot round are done based on the general rank and there is no reservation. Also, at IET/KNIT, seats for core branches like CS/EC/ME, fill up first.

If you are a fresher then I will suggest you take a year drop and appear for various entrance exams next year and, if you are not a fresher then, you can go to other colleges. You will not get the atmosphere like IET Lucknow anywhere else, and hence, taking a year drop will be the best in any case. The environment is very competitive at IET Lucknow. Even KNIT Sultanpur lags in this case. The location of IET Lucknow is perfect for coaching for exams like CAT, GATE, IES, IAS, etc.

Visit the official websites, to get the detailed information regarding the cutoff required at these institutes.

What are some interesting proxy/attendance stories at IIIT Allahabad?

SR
Soutrik Roy Posted On : March 15th, 2021
IIIT Allahabad

There was a guy Tarun Agarwal of the Electronics Branch and a faculty, Shirshu Verma. I heard this story from a friend. According to him, no one knew what kind of bond these two people had. Looking at them together, nobody could distinguish who is the teacher and who is the student.

Tarun never attended Shirshu Sir’s classes but he had 100% attendance. Usually, some of the other students used to make a proxy for others. When nobody used to make a proxy of Tarun, then he used to mark his attendance. And this happened not once or twice but frequently. In fact not only attendance, but he also used to give him full marks in all his subjects. There might be some secret of Shirshu Sir that only Tarun knows. Most of the batch used to think so.

There are endless proxy stories in engineering batches and every story is better than the other.

I got a waitlisted rank of 47 for IPM IIM Indore. Do I have a chance?

Pubali Roy Posted On : August 20th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (2019)

Last year one of my friends got selected for IPM in IIM Indore and he was selected with a waitlist rank of 41. While most of his batchmates also got around the same rank. So, there is a good chance that you will get admission too.

  • 47 is not a bad rank at all for IPM Indore as my friend and some of his batchmates also got a waitlist rank of around 40.
  • In recent years, the IPM course has gained immense popularity, thus you can’t have a 100% guarantee of getting selected.

At last, you have fairly high chances but still, it isn’t sure because of the booming inflow of candidates.

How do I get a decent CGPA in the bit mesra exam system?

DG
Debosmita Ghose Posted On : March 16th, 2021
B.E. Computer Science and Engineering, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (2021)

I know someone who started with 5 pointers and 3 backs but managed to secure a good placement after his course. Here are some things, which my friend followed to do so.

  • Have a sense of the subject and go thoroughly over the syllabus and attempt to form a conceptual picture of what you will study in the semester. It may at first seem hard, but it will require some time and interest. Learn about these subjects with actual life implementations.
  • Know where to begin with. Be mindful of the important texts, notes on which you have to study, etc. The best way to do this is to ask the seniors. If you get it right, then you can save time.
  • Try and get the previous year’s question papers. It may be not always helpful, but the majority of questions are selected from the last two or three years.
  • If you can’t memorize 5-6 modules per subject, particularly for 3-4 papers in a row. Try to prepare for fewer modules really well.
  • If you have a tendency to go deep into a single topic and have difficulty following tutorials you can solve tutorial sheets. Also, try to make notes on your own, it will help you understand the topics better. If possible try to teach someone else, this helps a lot.

Try to cut out the things that waste your time like Facebook, Gaming, TV series, etc.

Will 10 backlogs during engineering affect my chances to get into NITIE Mumbai?

AR
Ahaana Raval Posted On : August 11th, 2021
Studied Mechanical Design Engineering at Centennial College, Toronto, Canada (2019)

During the interview session at NITIE Mumbai your previous academic records are seen by the interviewers. They will ask for the reason regarding your backlog. Whether it was a result of carelessness or there was some genuine reason.

They will check your basics and the flow of answering the question and they will also test your logical progress and aptitude. With an eligible score in the qualifying exam and in your degree, you can get into any program. The backlog won’t affect much if you have maintained a good graph for your result.

If in your previous academic records there is no backlog mentioned then there is no problem at all in case it is mentioned and in your case 10 backlogs they can choose to overlook as well as ask you about it. But the most important thing is, to tell the truth and also if you have a sufficient score then it won’t be a problem at all.

What are the benefits of joining NITIE Mumbai's PGDIE/PGDPM course if he already has 2.x years of experience in IT sector?

TM
Tisha Mishra Posted On : August 13th, 2021
Studied at NITIE Mumbai (2019)

In my opinion, NITIE Mumbai is among the best B schools in India where you can learn and perform activities practically. The institution offers industrial exposure and a decent learning environment.

  • If you have experience of 2 years then still it would be a good option.
  • NITIE is popular among student communities for the 100% placement it offers.
  • Many major multinational companies visit the campus of the institute for recruitment purposes to recruit students for job roles in the consultancy sector, FMCG sector, manufacturing sector, etc.
  • NITIE is famous globally and also gets popularly referred to as "Mecca of Supply Chain".
  • It would surely be beneficial for you if you make a career in any of the above-mentioned fields.
  • The campus is unique. It is surrounded by two lakes and the campus also has a water pond. It is also full of greenery and has an extremely clean and hygienic environment.
  • The institute has two hostels.
  • One is Gilbreth hall and the second one is Taylor Hall (for boys), which is a building having 16 floors.

Their hostel is the biggest hostel being used for an educational institution in India. This factor along with the location of the institution makes it unique. My brother is a graduate of the institute and his experience was pretty good as a student of the institute.

How can I take admission in IET Lucknow in the 2nd year now that I am studying in IERT in the 1st year?

AA
Advika Ahuja Posted On : August 2nd, 2021
Studies CSE at Vellore Institute of Technology 2022

One of my cousins similarly wanted to secure a seat at IET Lucknow in the 2nd year itself. He mentions that for indeed taking admission in IET Lucknow in the 2nd year, you have to first complete your diploma, and following that, during the 3rd year, you are required to sit for the UPSEE LEET examination.

Depending on the basics of the score you attained in LEET, you can further go on to securing admission at IET Lucknow via lateral entry.

Here is a detailed outlook of the cut off followed by IET Lucknow both in the 2019 and 2020:

Round 2019 Cut Off 2020 Cut Off
1 192 17624
2 192 23102
3 233 23102
4 242 23102
5 - 23102

Other than that, you should also have a good CGPA, somewhat ranging from 9.0 to above, to obtain a seat otherwise.

Is NIT Rourkela good, like NIT Trichy?

SV
Sudeeksha Verma Posted On : September 7th, 2021
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (2020)

NIT Trichy is among the top 10 in NIRF Ranking while NIT Rourkela is still behind in the list. The infrastructure of both the colleges is decent.

The alumni collaboration is widespread for both institutes. However, NIT Trichy has a well-experienced faculty. In terms of management of various societies, clubs in the campus, extra co-curricular, and cleanliness are all exceptionally approved of by the students. If anything, it is top-notch at NIT Trichy.

NIT Rourkela cannot be compared with NIT Trichy when it comes to placements. The opportunities provided in NITT are tremendous and are far ahead of NIT Rourkela.

It is suggested to not go for NIT Rourkela unless you are opting for a core branch. NIT Trichy should be your priority in any situation.
