How is the mechanical branch at Navrachana University in Vadodara?

RJ
Rahul Joshi Posted On : July 29th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Navrachana University (2019)

Most of the faculty members at Navrachana University are alumni from IITs and it is worth it to pursue Mechanical engineering. This university is a good place if you want to prepare for the GATE examinations. It follows the exact syllabus for GATE and engineering services.

The pattern of teaching at Navrachana University is different from that of Gujarat Technological University (GTU). You will be asked questions in any pattern in the examination. You will not be asked to follow any standard books but a lot of reference books instead.

Following is the pattern of examination followed by Navrachana University:

  • 2 quizzes - 15 marks each
  • 1 mid-semester exam - 30 marks
  • 1 end semester exam - 40 marks

The mid-semester and quizzes are considered like internal assessments in which scoring a minimum of 18 marks are mandatory to be eligible for the end semester exam. Scoring a minimum of 12 marks is mandatory in the end-semester exam. If you fail to obtain the minimum marks, you will have to appear for the exams again.

A minimum attendance of 80% is mandatory otherwise you will not be allowed to appear for the exams. Do not bunk the lectures as they are very informative and you will enjoy every bit of it. However, the environment at the campus is chill and no one will force you to attend the classes.

Which is better, mechanical engineering from NIT Silchar, NIT Patna or NIT Goa regarding placements?

SB
Sayam Bhardwaj Posted On : August 25th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Patna (2020)

Having some friends studying in these institutes, I can say that as per what they mentioned, NIT Patna arrives with a better placement rate than the other two counterparts.

  • In a nutshell, there are multiple core companies that visit the campus during the placement drive.
  • These include major firms like Alston transport, L&T HED, L&T Constructions, Thermal, Havells, TATA Motors and many others.
  • Other than these few, various other students secure placement offers in companies belonging to the IT sector and the Consultancy services.
Categories Mechanical at NIT Silchar Mechanical at NIT Patna Mechanical at NIT Goa
Course Fee 5.42 lakh 5.70 lakh 5.38 lakh
Highest CTC 21 LPA 12-14 LPA 11 LPA
Average CTC 7.25 LPA 6-7 LPA 6 LPA
Recruiting Companies Wipro, TCS, Infosys, L&T, etc. GE, L&T, Tata Motors, Alston, etc. Bosch, Capgemini, HP, IBM, etc.

But, apart from the factors mentioned above, NIT Silchar is several steps ahead because it has established one of the best campuses, unlike many. That is the only brownie point NIT Silchar enjoys. It is best if you still research vividly about the prospects implanted in either institutes, and see what suits you best.

Should I consider VIT Vellore over PEC Chandigarh if I am getting mechanical at both places?

RT
Ravistha Taneja Posted On : May 4th, 2021
Studied at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore (2019)

A few cousins of mine have completed their B.Tech from VIT Vellore with different branches. With them being successfully placed, their experience says you must choose VIT among both of these. Here’s why:

  • Mechanical engineering at VIT Vellore is far better as you will get better exposure there. There is a huge emphasis on students coming up with their innovations and technology.
  • The quality of students at VIT can be easily compared with that of top NITs, as there is no caste-based reservation at VIT unlike PEC, Chandigarh.

In the end, it is best recommended to choose VIT Vellore for Mechanical engineering as it offers better exposure and opportunities. However, PEC is also a good college and its fee structure is quite nominal as compared to VIT. In case of budget constraints, go for PEC.

Which course is better...mechanical engineering dual degree at IIEST Shibpur or 4 years degree mechanical engineering degree at NIT DURGAPUR?

SM
Shalini Mitra Posted On : February 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, IIEST, Shibpur (2020)

When you complete a course of four years normally, you complete your graduation with the fundamentals of your branch which allows you to pursue higher studies if they are in your interests. It also gives you the option, at the same time, to complete your undergraduate degree in another subject if you wish to.

If you want to pursue a dual course, it can probably put a dent in your freedom to pursue your interests and you will be ‘rewarded’ with the master’s degree. Another problem after receiving the master’s degree would be the confusion about looking for a job, pursuing a doctorate in the field of your interest(s).

The dual degree in mechanical will demand more dedication from you but the four-year degrees are easier compared to those. Mechanical engineering is a good option if going for higher studies is in your interests.

Should I do ME from NIET?

SR
Shreyansh Ray Posted On : July 5th, 2021
B.tech Mechanical Engineering, Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology (2017)

Yes, it can be a good option for your career if you opt for ME from NIET. There would be no regrets in the future if you sincerely want to join the college for studies and growth in your career. My brother graduated from the same college in the year 2017 from the ME branch, so I might be able to help you with the question.

  • NIET is not a bad option for a course like ME.
  • Although there are not many extracurricular events that get scheduled in NIET like fests or DJ nights for students, it is still good for studies and placement purposes.
  • Many reputed companies visit NIET for recruitment drives.
Categories ME in NIET
Course Fee 2.13 lakh
Highest CTC 19 LPA
Average CTC 8-10 LPA
Recruiting Companies Amazon, TCS, Infosys, Capgemini, etc.

To provide you with a clearer picture and scenario, it does not matter which college you opt for because your skills will ultimately speak for you. Companies tend to hire freshers from many institutes altogether.

B.Tech. Chemical Engg. from Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar (2019)

According to the current status of different engineering branches, Chemical Engineering at PDPU is preferred due to a number of reasons stated below.

The following table compares certain aspects of the departments stated in PDPU.

Particulars

Chemical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Total no of seats

60

Placement Rate

85%

96%

Average Salary Offered

?3.5 LPA

?4.5 LPA

Highest Salary Offered

?16.6 LPA

?10 Lakh

Placements: (Winning Department- Chemical Engineering)

  • Chemical Engineering in PDPU has a much better placement rate and a higher maximum salary and average salary offered than Mechanical Engineering.
  • Various companies recruit from Chemical Engineering, varying from Oil, Gas, and even Management Consultancy. NOCIL, Nayara Oil, Coromandal Fertilizer, Reliance, Protiviti Abudhabi, Honeywell UOP, Nirma, and many other MNCs recruit students from the Chemical Engineering branch at PDPU.
  • Due to the lesser number of students in the Chemical branch than in the Mechanical branch at the institute, the competition for placements is quite less in Chemical.

Curriculum and Faculty:

  • The course syllabus and subjects in Chemical are easier as compared to Mechanical, in matters of lab and theory papers. You need to study fewer numbers of subjects in Chemical Engineering.
  • Faculties in the Chemical Engineering department are better and can be approached easily in need of curriculum-related or research-based problems.

Opportunities:

  • GATE aspirants have a lesser struggle in Chemical Engineering as the overall competition pan India is less as compared to the same in Mechanical.
  • Even at low GRE scores, graduates get the opportunity for higher studies at better colleges abroad for Chemical Engineering, than in Mechanical Engineering.
  • PDPU Chemical Engineering department has received a lot of project grants from DST and research grants from PDPU ORSP to individual students.

Therefore, for an overall outcome, the Chemical Engineering department is considered to be a much better option in almost every aspect than Mechanical Engineering in PDPU.
