What are the cons and pros of doing an undergraduate degree from IGNOU?

SD
Shiny Singh David Posted On : October 21st, 2022
Bachelor of Arts from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) (Graduated 2016)

In education, the university does not matter more than your performance and marks. You might have graduated from IIT but your scores might be average. Similarly, you might have graduated from IGNOU and scored much more marks. Your degree from IGNOU can never be a negative aspect in your resume.

PROS:

  1. Saves your time.

  2. Allows you to multitask- you can do a job along with studying.

  3. You can take exams from any place in India

CONS:

  1. You will definitely miss your college days.

  2. You might miss fests and other extracurricular activities.

You can continue to prepare for further exams alongside doing BA from IGNOU. There are several examples where people cracked UPSC at the age of 22 with just a degree from IGNOU without any coaching. One such example is Keshavendra Kumar IAS from Bihar. So yes, it’s a tough but probable choice you need to make.

When my term-end examination will take place as I enrolled in MEG 1 IGNOU in the month of July?

SM
Sourabh Mohanty Posted On : October 21st, 2022
M.A ECO from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

Every year, IGNOU holds its TEE (Term End Examinations) in June and December.

The practical and theoretical parts of the same course must be mentioned separately in the exam form, and the fees are also separate for both. The exam fee for both theory and practical courses/papers is currently 60/- rupees.

Typically, a grace period of 10-20 days is also allowed for the submission of examination forms, with a Late Fee of around 1000/- rupees as of now. The exact end date of the grace period as well as the late fee amount are communicated separately.

If the previous examination's results have not been declared, you should include those courses in the exam form. You may also be exempt from paying the exam fee for such courses. At the time of exam form submission, confirm this with the respective study center. Please keep in mind that the assignment portion of the respective courses must be completed before submitting the exam, or your hall ticket for the examination may be withheld. You are considered an Eligible Candidate once you register for a course and complete the semester/year allotted to that course.

Once you are eligible, you can take the exam in any subsequent TEE (June or December). You can still appear in both TEEs if your course is year-based rather than semester-based. This is a major source of confusion for students enrolled in annual programs.

You may reappear for a paper as many times as necessary to pass it (mind the maximum program duration, however). If the previous examination result was not declared or if you did not receive at least 40% pass marks, you should reappear.

You cannot reappear for that course TEE once you have received the minimum required marks (typically 40%). You must complete ALL courses within the maximum time frame for the Program.

When choosing a B.B.A program, it is important to consider the quality of the program and what it offers compared to other universities. IBS Hyderabad offers a strong B.B.A program that stands out in comparison to other universities such as GGSIPU, Amity, and Christ.

In the final year of the 3-year B.B.A program at IBS Hyderabad, you have the advantage of choosing from streams including Finance, Marketing, HRM, Entrepreneurship, and IT, flexibility not offered in the BBA program at IP University.

The cost of the B.B.A program at IBS Hyderabad is approximately Rs 5,80,000, which is similar to what other universities charge. Additionally, IBS Hyderabad offers scholarships based on academic performance. For example, students who score more than 90% can receive a scholarship of Rs 75,000.

The placement statistics for BBA Graduates from IBS Hyderabad are strong, although these placements are primarily for graduation purposes and not post-graduation.

If you are interested in exploring other opportunities after completing your B.B.A, you can read more about your options.

Which is the best branch in VSSUT, Burla, Odisha?

Sapna Malik updated Posted On : October 12th, 2023

VSSUT is a great place for UG studies. But a degree from this college isn’t sufficient in most cases. So it is usually better to opt for higher studies at a prestigious college.

  1. For an M.Tech or MS, CS/IT are the best branches. This is because they offer endless opportunities in research and jobs.
  2. For an MBA, Production Engineering is the right branch. Its curriculum contains elements of Management Studies. Also, scoring high grades is comparatively easier.
  3. For UPSC, Economics, Law, etc, any branch is equally suitable.
  4. To grab high paying jobs, Mechanical and Production are the best. But there is a fierce competition as core companies hire just 2-3 students each year.
  5. For a CS/IT student who participates in Competitive Programming, goes for ACM ICPC, and maintains good grades, getting off campus placements in Google, Microsoft, Facebook, etc. isn’t very difficult. A forum has been set up for competitive programming where the seniors provide good guidance on problem solving.

Make sure to go for a branch that interests you. This does play a huge role in deciding your career prospects.

How much value does an M.A in Economics from IGNOU add to your resume?

AS
Ayush Simple Posted On : October 20th, 2022
M.A. in Economics, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

MEC is recognised for government jobs such as the RBI and even the IES exams. It is a well-known degree. The prospects look promising.

Some of the issues are as follows:

  • There are many offset printing errors, so if you are not studying regularly and are not referring to other books, you will be confused and nowhere.

  • There are numerous topics about which counsellors are completely unaware. As a result, you may have difficulty grasping those concepts.

  • There are so many mathematical derivations that if you don't come from a mathematical background, you may struggle to understand and apply them in economic terms.

However, if you want to enrol, it is recommended that you be mentally prepared and not rely on the IGNOU Booklets. Use it to refer to topics and study them using reference books and other sources. To attend counselling sessions, you must go to the study centre. It will show you how to prepare for this course.

I want to get a PhD from IGNOU. Is it tough to get a PhD from IGNOU?

KS
Kritika Sharma Posted On : October 28th, 2022
BA from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)( Graduated 2019)

It is a given fact that IGNOU is one of the best universities in India. All of its courses have great value. But when it comes to PhD, the truth is that there are many universities that are more specialized in it. Also, you can opt to study abroad. It is a very good option and has a lot of benefits.

In the end, it’s your own personal decision. Just make sure to think about it open-mindedly first. You may refer to career counselling sites also. They give you the best advice regarding your career or any study-related decision.

How is IMT Ghaziabad's dual country program?

DB
Deepak Behl Posted On : January 25th, 2023
Studied at Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad

IMT Ghaziabad’s dual country program is one of the most coveted courses among its students. Like any other course, it has its own pros and cons. Let’s discuss them further to see the course's worth.

Pros

  • The high fees are worth the ROI you will get
  • The faculty pool comprises professors from all over the world and this broadened the perspective of some subjects.
  • The pedagogy adopted by the excellent faculty makes you fall in love with some very difficult and boring subjects
  • The program has seen an increase in clubs and committees in recent years.
  • Your stay in Dubai is quite productive given you are availing of the necessary opportunities and making the best out of them.

Cons

  • The course is expensive as you have to pay hefty fees as well as additional expenses for your stay in Dubai.
  • The internship placement is a bit unorganized due to the difference in hiring seasons in India and Dubai
  • The campus life is a bit dull in comparison to other flagship courses.

So IMT Ghaziabad’s Dual Country Program is beneficial to anyone who is looking for extra exposure to their MBA program.

Is doing B.Com from IGNOU a good idea?

SJ
Sidhharth Jain Posted On : October 21st, 2022
MS from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

It's not a bad idea if you are thoughtful enough to do this course without being admitted to a regular university.

If you rely entirely on the staff and have blind faith that they will assist you with all of your questions, you may have difficulty sorting it all out on your own. It's a university where you have to apply and do everything on your own. This is what distinguishes and challenges IGNOU.

If you decide to apply for B.Com at IGNOU, read the prospectus carefully and keep it with you. The prospectus will provide you with all of the information you require.
