Is IIT Bhubaneswar ECE better than JU CSE, without considering IIT tag?

DM
Debopriya Majumder Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Jadavpur University (2021)

No, IIT Bhubaneswar ECE is not better than JU CSE. According to NIRF India Engineering ranking for 2019 JU ranked 13, whereas IIT Bhubaneswar was at 17.

JU may have its own problems but it still remains a university with a great reputation especially for CSE. Almost all big known companies visit the campus for placement for CSE. According to 2019 placement records, the CSE department of JU has some unbeatable records with 90% of the students getting placed. The average salary package offered was INR 12 LPA and may go as high as INR 40 LPA. Major recruiters of CSE department of JU(2019)- Amazon, Microsoft, Paypermint D.E.Shaw, Wipro Turbo, Samsung (Bangalore, Noida, Delhi), Goldman Sachs, Adobe, Synopsys, Work Applications (Singapore), SAP Labs, C-DOT, Siemens, Oracle, Reliance, PriceWaterhouse Cooper, G.E.Digital, Reve System, Dynamic Digital Technology, MU Sigma and many more.

Since IIT Bhubaneswar ECE started in 2016 and the students will graduate in 2020. Although the placement record for other branches is good, around 10 LPA for Electrical Engineering.

IIT Bhubaneswar may provide more exposure and a shiny IIT tag but between IIT Bhubaneswar ECE and JU CSE, JU CSE will be the better choice.

Is CSE dual-degree at IIEST Shibpur or EE/Mech/IT at Jadavpur University better placement wise?

AB
Anureema Banerjee Posted On : September 15th, 2020
MBA Operations, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2021)

Being one of the most prestigious Universities in India, IIEST Shibpur sees a lot more top companies for placement purposes every year. Jadavpur University on the other hand also has a high placement rate but oversees more core companies as compared to IIEST.

  • Funds: IIEST Shibpur receives a high amount of funding from the central government annually, being a public university, and therefore has a better campus, more equipped facilities, and better tech services as compared to Jadavpur University.
  • Crowd: Since IIEST is considered among the top college of national importance, it enrolls students from all over the country, therefore, making it a diverse environment culturally.
  • Placements: Although, for students looking for courses in CSE, Jadavpur University is known to offer a 100% placement record with an average salary package of 19.96 LPA. Some of the top recruiting companies are Microsoft, Reliance, Samsung, Oracle, and more. IIEST offers the highest placements across the Information Technology branch with an average salary of 5 LPA.
  • Course Offered: If students are looking for an integrated course that offers placement services, then the BTech+MTech dual degree course offered by IIEST Shibpur is apt considering Jadavpur University does not offer dual degree courses as part of their curriculum. But in terms of individual placements in the streams of Civil, Mechanical, andEE, Jadavpur University offers some great placements for students amongst some top recruiting companies.

Being well known nationally, IIEST attracts more number of companies for placements but Jadavpur University offers a higher number of core company placements across specific streams. It offers the highest salary package of 42 LPA whereas IIEST offers the highest salary package of 39.12 LPA.

Therefore, students can make a choice related to which university offers better placements depending upon the core subjects they are looking at studying.

Which is better, ceramic engineering in IIT BHU or chemical engineering in Jadavpur University?

AS
Aditya Saha Posted On : February 14th, 2022
Jadavpur University student at Jadavpur University - Department of Construction Engineering

If you are willing to join Management/Analytics/Consulting or IT sector then choose Ceramic Engineering in IIT BHU. Compared to JU, IITs offer much better non-core placements.

If you want to join core companies or PSUs then you should choose JU over IIT BHU. Many core recruiters offer job opportunities to JU Chemical Engineering students. Some of the major core recruiters that visit the campus placement regularly are PepsiCo, Cocacola, ITC, Budwiser, RIL, etc. Well-renowned non-core companies like L&T Infotech, TCS Digital, Infosys, etc visit the JU campus placement as well. One other advantage of choosing Chemical Engineering at JU over Ceramic Engineering at IIT BHU is the public sector. SMPCIL and Vizag Steel are the only two PSUs in Ceramic Engineering.

Should I opt for Civil Engineering in IIEST Shibpur or Production Engineering at Jadavpur University?

AM
Ahana Malhotra Posted On : September 17th, 2020
Studies at Jadavpur University (2024)

First of all, it is important to note that Civil Engineering and Production Engineering are not the same things. Students looking to pursue courses in any of these fields are required to do thorough research before choosing and applying to a university.

Ranking:

  • IIEST Shibpur and Jadavpur University are both excellent colleges for education. Jadavpur University is one of the top graded A-tier universities in India however, IIEST holds more brand value because of its recent popularity and placements.
  • Jadavpur University has been ranked at 12 out of 200 universities in India by NIRF ranking and the 2nd best university in Kolkata. IIEST Shibpur has been ranked at 43rd place in the same ranking.

Departments:

  • The Civil engineering department is one of the oldest departments at IIEST university and has one of the highest numbers of placements. The production engineering department at JU is relatively new but it has the benefit of having experienced and up to date professors.

Admission Cut-off:

Both universities accept JEE scores for admission. IIEST Shibpur B.Tech in Civil Engineering requires a rank around 2506-27001 whereas JU B.tech in production engineering requires a rank of 315-420.

Placements:

  • The placements offered at Jadavpur University are better for the reason that it has a better nationwide ranking and engages in campus recruitment programs. It had recently achieved a record of 84% placements in May 2020.
  • IIEST civil engineering program had 78 students out of which 42 got placed in 2020.It recorded a 57.14% placement percentage.

Thus, it all depends on the student and their JEE ranking if they want to take admission in IIEST Shibpur or Jadavpur University. Again, it also depends on the interest whether they want to pursue Civil Engineering or go towards the production engineering line.

Is it better to take CSE at JU or IIT Bhubaneswar ?

AD
Anandita Das Posted On : August 13th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar

Jadavpur University and IIT Bhubaneswar – both have their merits and demerit. The following factors may help you make a better decision.

IIT Bhubaneswar, like other IITs, bears its brand image. Hence, it has the reliability of a well-connected social environment. The politics, suggested assumptions about substance abuse, etc have tarnished the reputation of JU a bit in recent times.

IIT Bhubaneswar has the reputation of hiring and employing well-qualified professors. There are two professors, seven associate professors, and eighteen assistant professors in the Electrical Engineering Department of IIT Bhubaneswar. Jadavpur University carries a distinct reputation for Computer Science Engineering degree. The present intake capacity of JU is sixty-four for CSE. The faculty consists of eighteen professors, four associate professors, and five assistant professors.

For years IIT has attracted many major recruiters. Currently, IIT Bhubaneswar has a placement record of 100% for the CSE branch. The average salary package is around 11.44 lakhs per annum. But, Jadavpur University has an unbeatable placement record. According to last years placement highlight, all 60 students from CSE got placed. The average salary package offered was 19.96 lakhs per annum.

IIT Bhubaneswar has an academic culture compiled of some of the top students of the country. These students come from a broad variety of background. Hence, you will have the opportunity to socialize with a colourful assemblage. JU is a state university, so it does not offer the same. Even so, Jadavpur University is in a metro-city and has better sex-ratio. This draws them distinct advantages.

Jadavpur University offers hostels, guest house, library, daycare centre, health centre and JU employees’ coop credit society limited. There are ten laboratories and a library in the CSE department. Moreover, there are many recent infrastructural developments in JU. The infrastructure of IIT Bhubaneswar is slowly improving. The campus of IIT Bhubaneswar is spread across 936 acres of land. It has an academic area, residential area, training centres and Research Park.

In conclusion, both colleges and their corresponding environment have benefits and limitations. So, make your choice as per your interests and preferences and the factors discussed above.

Which is better, JU for ECE or MNNIT Allahabad for ECE?

SP
Saumita Pahari Posted On : September 15th, 2020
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad

According to NIRF rankings 2020, the rank of MNNIT Allahabad is #48th for B.Tech courses and the rank of JU is #117th for B.Tech courses (in India). MNNIT Allahabad has more number of qualified faculties in their institution as compared to JU. JU as well as MNNIT Allahabad are approved by AICTE. But does the institution give good placements to their students? Let’s determine by the subsequent data.

Intake procedure

  • JU:The selection is completed on the basis of the merit list. The university conducts an entrance exam namelyJET for admission.
  • MNNIT Allahabad:The candidate must have completed his/her 10+2 in Science stream acquiring a minimum of 75% marks in the examination.Passing the entrance exam, i.e., JEE Main conducted by CBSE is necessary.

Placements

JU:

  • Recently around 250 companies visited the campus for selections.
  • Some of the frequently visited companies in JU are Dell, IBM, Coca Cola, Aircel, Airtel, Axis Bank, Bajaj and many more.
  • In the campus selection of the university, the highest salary offered to an ECE student was INR 30 LPA and the average salary offered was INR 7 LPA.

MNNIT Allahabad:

  • The placement rate for the ECE department is 90.63%with a total of 285 companies visiting the campus for placement.
  • Some of the top recruiters of the institute are as follows: Indian Navy, Dell, Canon, BHEL, E-bay, Adobe, Bharat Institute of Technology, etc. followed by frequently visiting companies like Google, Infosys, Amazon, Flipkart, HCL, Axis bank, Dell, E-bay, Cisco, etc.
  • In the campus selection, the highest salary offered to an ECE student was INR 25.33 LPA and the average salary offered was INR 10.95 LPA.
  • Cut off of other state candidate for the general category is ranging between 4615-6752 and for home state general candidate ranged from 3600-7128.

Now on comparing the above data, the candidate might have come to know which institution is better. One should not only look for placement rate and salary as the key point to decide which institution is better. It is always advisable to look for other factors also like faculty, city life, which atmosphere suits him/her better, extra facilities, extracurricular activities, etc. Then a conclusion can be drawn to know which institution is better for them.
