Why is the IIM Lucknow Brand value increasing over FMS's, in the opinion of MBA aspirants?

AG
Alankar Gupta Posted On : January 9th, 2023
Former Post Graduate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2015–2017)

Before I even answer your question let me contradict it. No, the IIM Lucknow brand value is not really increasing over the FMS in any aspect. If anyone really thinks so then he/she is just after the brand name. To clarify my point, I have listed out some strong points in favor of FMS that might change your mind.

  •  A cost-benefit analysis that includes tangible and intangible asset(s) evaluation will prove the fact that FMS certainly does better. Apart from this the ROI factor cannot be underestimated in the case of FMS.
  • Your purpose of pursuing an MBA will very much determine the brand value of a college. If you just want to attach a tag with you for life then IIM it is, but if you are looking beyond that and want to be exposed to a self-discovery journey along with MBA, then FMS is for you.
  • The infrastructure is indeed lacking when compared to IIM Lucknow, but this never means that it fails to impart quality education. In fact, FMS has given birth to many top-class management leaders.
  • The batch size is very low in comparison to IIM Lucknow. This simply means more opportunities and less competition.
  • FMS is a very old institute almost 60+ years of age whereas IIM Lucknow has completed half of this time only.

So we can definitely conclude that FMS is a fairly decent choice and that it’s just a misconception that IIM Lucknow is increasing in brand value. Someone has rightly said

At an IIM you loan your MBA, but at FMS you own it!

How is IIM Lucknow & Wiley’s product analytics program? It costs almost 2 lakhs. Is it worth it? Has anyone done this course?

SB
Sulagana Bhattacharya Posted On : January 9th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2021)

Honestly, there are so many online courses offering the same program that are cost-friendly. Brand name does not play any major role in your career in Analytics. So paying such hefty fees is not understandable. Also, the professors of Analytics here are too old and have never worked in the field in real life. They are just here to earn money and impart bookish knowledge.

Courses like these require passion and willingness to learn and not a brand name or huge fees. This course is suitable for a senior manager who is eager to learn about Analytics.

What is Sustainable Management? How is the PGPSM course offered by IIM Lucknow? What are the prospects?

RS
Rishi Sharma Posted On : January 16th, 2023
Studied Sustainability & Management, Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2019)

Long-term survival is a key component of sustainability. Providing for the needs of the present generation without compromising those of future generations is what is meant by the phrase "sustainable development," which is also related. Sustainable management is a managerial approach to ensuring long-term viability and development.

IIM Lucknow is the first IIM to offer this course. It is available at the IIM Lucknow Noida Campus. Finance, marketing, strategy, economics, organizational behavior, ethics, and some subjects related to sustainability and CSR are included in the course (Corporate Social Responsibility). A 70:30 ratio roughly represents the distribution of general management and sustainability-related subjects.

Companies will need managers who are knowledgeable about sustainability for successful strategy and market leadership as a result of growing awareness regarding the environment, entitlements, climate change, rapidly changing energy mix, etc. Sustainable Management provides a great opportunity for talented individuals. The first batch's final placement as well as the second and third batches' summer placements were all in consulting firms, development organizations, infrastructure, automotive, heavy engineering, and renewable energy.

Which is better, IIM Lucknow ABM or IRMA?

MB
Mridul Bagga Posted On : January 16th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2019)

The answer is dependent on your level of interest.

The scenario at IIM Lucknow PGP-ABM is as follows:

  • Placements: PGP and PGP ABM placements are both common. As a result, chances of getting into roles such as marketing, strategy, consulting, and so on would be higher than for Agri-Business-focused roles.
  • Overall Knowledge: As an ABM student, you can take PGP courses such as Strategy, Finance, and Operations. This translates to a better understanding of business.
  • Opportunities: Opportunities for an ABM student would be similar to those for PGP students at IIM L. As an IIM L student, you can compete in business case study competitions that are only open to top B-schools.
  • Summer Internship: ABM Students are placed in companies such as BCG, Accenture Strategy, JPMC, Aditya Birla Group, Hindustan Unilever, P&G, Britannia, Airtel, Uber, Mars, PepperFry, Udaan, Hindustan Times, and others during their summer internship.

Many PGP ABM students prefer FMCG firms for Sales/Marketing positions.

  • Agriculture-Specific Roles: Because of the small batch size, development sector organizations (NGOs, cooperatives, and government development agencies) and CSR foundations would be in short supply.

In short, you will almost certainly receive a higher salary at IIM Lucknow, but it may not be in an agribusiness/development sector organization.

The IRMA Scenario:

  • A class of more than 160 students.
  • The curriculum would be centered on agriculture and the rural sector.
  • Placements: A large number of development sector organizations, NGOs, cooperatives, and government development agencies seek placements through IRMA.

For example, UNICEF, Tata Trusts (FISE), Vedanta Foundation, Reliance Foundation, and BAIF Development Research Foundation.

If you are very specific about agribusiness or rural development roles, you should apply to IRMA because of the large batch size and the increased number of Agri-specific roles coming to the campus. If you want to explore other sectors or domains and are looking for a brand name for life as well as a higher package, i.e. an experience similar to that of a PGP student, then IIM Lucknow is the place to be.

PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2010)

A friend of mine recently got her duplicate mark sheets/transcripts issued from IIM Lucknow. There's a simple way which you can also follow and get single or multiple sets of transcripts as per your need and requirement.

  • First, you need to scan the same mark sheets for which you need transcripts and there are multiple ways of paying the charges which is INR 500/- per set which depends on how many sets of transcripts you want.
  • You can simply make a DD in favor of “IIM Lucknow” which is payable at Lucknow only and can send it to ‘PGP Office, Indian Institute of Management, Prabandh Nagar, IIM Road, Lucknow-226 013’ along with the scanned copies of your grade sheets in sets.
  • After receiving your application, the transcripts will be sent to you in separately sealed multiple envelopes arranged in sets on the same postal address mentioned by you (India Only). For any clarification or any additional information, you can simply contact the PGP office for the same.
  • Don't forget to mention your postal address as the transcripts will be delivered to the same address.

In case you want to transfer the charges online then you can send it through NEFT on the band details as shown below:

MK
Mridula Kumari Posted On : January 16th, 2023
MBA (IPMX) from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2019)

IIM Lucknow Interview Experience is provided here.

  • Profile-related inquiries
  • Questions about current events and economics (GDP of India, Sectors of economy, etc.)
  • Questions about basic financial statements ( What is a balance sheet, how is it different from than income statement, etc.)
  • 12th-grade Mathematics.
  • General Understanding and Knowledge as well as Social Awareness (MP & MLA of your constituency, Speaker of Lok Sabha, MP of Lucknow, etc.)

IPMX Experience:

IPMX is held at IIM Lucknow's Noida campus. The Noida campus is smaller in size than the Lucknow campus. However, it has all of the necessary amenities. IPMX's pedagogy and curriculum are excellent. However, the first few months will be extremely difficult. Each class would feel like it was a barrage of new ideas. Sleep hours would suffer in the early days. Assignments and quizzes become a regular part of one's day. Students become immune to the stress of quizzes/assignments by the third term. There is something new to learn every day.

Does IIM Lucknow only give admission to students with work experience?

AS
Animesh Shah Posted On : January 9th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2022)

The simple answer is no, IIM Lucknow and in fact, even other IIMs don’t give calls to just experienced people. Every MBA aspirant who has a Bachelor's degree in any field (minimum 3 years of course) or is in their final year is eligible to appear for CAT. You start getting calls from IIMs based on your percentile. IIM Lucknow Sectional Cutoff is 85 Percentile while the Overall CAT Percentile is 90 for General Category.

However, there are several other parameters that determine your chances of admission. The parameters along with their respective weightage are given below

Parameters

PGP Weightage

PGP-ABM Weightage

PGP-SM Weightage

CAT

From the table you can determine that the maximum weightage is given to CAT. Although work experience does carry a certain weight, a fresher can maximize their CAT score to compensate for it.

IIM Lucknow gives more weightage to work experience than other IIMs but that does not mean it does not give admission to freshers. It’s just that experienced candidates have a higher chance of admission.

How is your review of Big Data Analytics from IIM Lucknow?

RT
Rajat Tokas Posted On : January 16th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow

It is true that IIM Lucknow, like many other premier business schools in India, does not have a specific focus on Big Data Analytics. However, it is important to note that this does not necessarily mean that there is no association between IIM Lucknow and Big Data Analytics.

While it is true that IIMs primarily focuses on providing students with a strong foundation in managerial skills, the reality is that the business world is constantly evolving, and new technologies and trends are emerging all the time. Big Data Analytics is one such trend that has gained significant prominence in recent years, and it is a skill that is becoming increasingly important for managers to possess.

It is also worth noting that while IIMs may not have specific courses or programs dedicated to Big Data Analytics, they do offer IT specialization options. These programs may not specifically cover big data, but they do provide students with a solid foundation in IT and technology, which can be beneficial when it comes to understanding and working with big data.

Furthermore, it is not entirely accurate to say that any business school will teach you that having a solid understanding of Excel is all you need. While Excel is an important tool for data analysis and management, it is not the only tool or skill required for working with big data. In fact, big data analytics typically involves working with large sets of data that are too complex to be handled by Excel and requires specialized software and tools such as Hadoop, Spark, and Python.

In conclusion, while IIM Lucknow and other IIMs may not have a specific focus on big data analytics, this does not mean that they do not provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to work with it. The management skills taught in these institutes along with IT and technology specialization options can be a good foundation to understand and work with it. Additionally, it is a rapidly evolving field and it's important for students to keep updating their skills and knowledge.

How long does it take to pay off the loan for IIM Lucknow for an average student?

JP
Jay Puranik Posted On : January 9th, 2023
MBA in Marketing, Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2008)

The time it will take to pay off the loan for an average student depends on the kind of job you have landed and your personal expenditures and commitments. The other factors that might affect are your lifestyle, dependencies, loan amount, cost of living in your city, etc.

For a high-paying job, (around 20+ LPA), it will take 2 years maximum if you have no commitments, while 3-4 years if you are supporting your family.

For a less-paying job, it will take 3-5 years if you don’t have any commitments, while 5-7 years if you are supporting your family.

So the maximum time taken to pay off the loan is 7 years. Also, there are many EMI calculators available online. You can use them to calculate the exact figures.
