Which is the better institution to go to, IIT or NIT Trichy?

SC
Sagar Roy Chowdhury Posted On : September 6th, 2021
B.Tech in EEE from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2018)

Before understanding the prospects of either institute, you should rather find out whether you want to go for an institute based on its tag name, or the branch you are more inclined towards. One of my cousins recently chose NIT over IIT because he preferred giving his branch more importance, than the brand name.

  • Yes, IIT is undeniably a superior choice to most other institutes.
  • But, if you do not secure the branch of your choice yet still opt for IIT, the decision might become damaging.
  • There have been several incidents with similar issues.
  • For my cousin, branches like Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering formed one group.
  • During this time, he decided to choose NIT Trichy for these first group branches rather than taking up branches from the second group, provided that the latter would not be greatly fruitful.
  • Subsequently, he interpreted similar actions while applying for NITs, BITS Pilani, and UPTU, while still filling the choices for AIEEE counseling.
  • Instead of having a borderline alternative, he kept his options broader.

It is suggested that you do the same. Keep similar options and determine what among the handful works best for you.

What is the true condition of Ph.D scholars in NIT Trichy?

PM
Poornima Mehta Posted On : August 31st, 2021
Ph.D Control and Automation, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (2020)

NIT Trichy is old but it is not necessary that the curriculum is good. The scenario here is quite different and you can see many glitches while taking an overview about it. So, let’s discuss some of the points about it.

  • Most of the scholars are suffering mentally and physically. They are not receiving the right amount of guidance and mentorship.
  • This is applicable not only to NIT Trichy but other institutes such as NIT Warangal, IITs - Madras, Bombay, IISC, and others.
  • Proper Counseling must be given to Mentors, in order to safeguard the scholars. Most of the faculty are reckless and give negative comments to the students.

One of my friends was pursuing Ph.D from NIT Trichy and she suffered a lot. Crosscheck the situation because it will be in your life for a maximum of 5–7 years. You can talk to a senior for a better understanding of the situation.

What is the role of CPC in NIT Trichy?

AS
Arpita Sinha Posted On : August 30th, 2021
M.Tech. Power Electronics, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2015)

One of my friends graduated from NIT Trichy and here’s what I got to know from him. According to him, only clearing the CPC test allows you to attend the campus placements.

Generally, 7 to 9 out of 10 students clear the test. But if one fails, he/she might lose the chance of attending the first 2 to 4 companies coming for placements. However, he/she may be allowed for the rest of the placements.

The test contains questions on both technical and non-technical topics and is generally easy. So make sure to prepare yourself and practice quantum and reasoning, as the students get stuck in this portion, majorly. There will be mock interviews and GD sessions, do take part in all these as these will brush up your skills.

How good is an M.Tech in process control and instrumentation from NIT-Trichy? What are the job prospects?

VS
Vaibhavi Sharma Posted On : September 10th, 2021
M.Tech. VLSI System Design, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2015)

Basically, M.Tech in process control and instrumentation is considered a multi-disciplinary course. According to some of my friends studying at NIT Trichy, a student gets the privilege to study varied subjects headed by different faculties like ICE and chemical departments.

  • Earlier the degree of the course was provided by the chemical department but now it has been shifted to ICE.
  • Usually, it has been seen that this branch seems a bit difficult to students as they need to study different subjects.
  • The difficulty arises when chemical students need to study electrical branches or vice-versa.
  • Coming to the placements, if you have a desire to get a decent job after the two years of your program, then NIT is the best place.
  • Starting from the second semester the placement committee develops certain skills that can help you immensely during the final placements.

According to the recent placement report, the following data can be tabulated as given below:

Categories M.Tech in Process Control and Instrumentation in NIT Trichy
Placement percentage 83.3
Average salary offered INR 7.84 LPA
Median salary offered INR 8.50 LPA
Highest salary offered INR 12.81 LPA
Companies visited Tata motors, Veoneer, Valeo, Baker Hughes

Lastly, we can conclude that if you are aspiring to pursue M.Tech in process control and instrumentation, then NIT Trichy is the best place where you can grow along with your holistic development, and get an opportunity to be placed in one of the most prestigious companies.

Does any NIT Trichy/Calicut offer summer internships?

SG
Shalini Guha Posted On : August 31st, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Warangal (2015)

The enrolled candidates are eligible to apply for summer internships in various fields at NIT Trichy, Calicut and Warangal. My cousin was selected for a summer internship last year.

  • The Interested candidates are required to contact the members of the faculty of the respective department via email or a phone call.
  • You should prepare a Resume (CV) for this purpose as in most cases students apply for internships with a resume.
  • Make sure that you mail or call the professor who is working upon research in the area that interests you along with your resume.
  • If you are not enrolled in one of these courses at these institutions, then you are not eligible to apply for these internship programs.

The faculty members at these institutions always are on the lookout to collaborate with the students for research activities and this is why the applications for internships are always appreciated. You can contact the concerned authority at your institution for more details or you can visit the official website of your college.

You should choose NIT Trichy, given a choice. DTU, and NIT Trichy both are quite popular. But the NIT tag will offer you better opportunities. NIT Trichy is constantly ranked among top NITs and offers academics at a similar level to most IITs. The institute also has a good placement record. NIT Trichy placements usually have an average CTC of INR 6.5 LPA.

How is ICE at NIT Trichy?

RD
Raya Das Posted On : March 24th, 2021
B.Tech Instrumentation Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2019)

My brother is a recent graduate of Instrumentation and Control Engineering at NIT Trichy, so let me share some facts about its overall performance.

There are some pros and cons of the department which include:

Pros:

  1. Vibration control research in ICE at Nit Trichy is really good.
  2. Robotics, Control, and Electronics are also good for pursuing your graduate studies.
  3. Career/ Job aspects across a variety of profiles are accessible for ICE graduates in campus placements.
  4. Seniors help a lot with academics.
  5. You will be trained to work under pressure.
  6. Classrooms are neat and have a great environment. No uniform is required for entering the labs.

Average CTC

Recruiting Companies

Tech Mahindra, TCS, Texas Instruments, JP Morgan, etc.

Cons:

  1. There are only 11 faculties in the department out of which only two faculties teach properly.
  2. Labs are not up-to-the-mark. Most of the electronics components don’t work properly. The guidance is inadequate.
  3. Assignments provide little help.
  4. Due to continuous fests in the college, it might be difficult to concentrate on your studies.
  5. Like every college, there should be 4 classes per week, but here in ICE, the faculty members tend to keep 6-8 classes per week with students attending the classes just for the attendance.
  6. Subjects like PDD, Engineering Mechanics, and Analytical Instrumentation are taken for granted.

If you are really interested in Instrumentation, only then you should join this department. Otherwise, join some other branch in NIT T so that you are able to learn something.
