As one of my friends is in the Computer Engineering Department of NIT Surat. I might be able to answer the question.

NIT Surat is well known for its Mechanical Branch. Compared to all branches, the quality of professors in the Mechanical Department is far better than the other branches. 

If you have any interest in robotics we have Drishti, a student club that is completely dedicated to robotics and SAE for designing cars. 

Thus, it is suggested that if you want to pursue mechanical engineering then go for NIT Surat. Whichever institute you choose you won't regret much. NIT Calicut also has good reviews on the internet.

NIT Surathkal IT is far superior to NIT Calicut. It is well-known in India for its CSE/IT branches. It is a highly regarded engineering college in India, and after four years of B.Tech college, the specific branch does not matter.

NITK outperforms Calicut in terms of reputation and placements. Furthermore, because of the higher cutoffs, the quality of students may be slightly higher here.

IT at NITK is nearly equivalent to CSE here. During placements, nearly all companies open to CS are open for IT as well.

The subjects taught and the syllabus in both departments are also similar. In fact, the IT department may be slightly better than the CS department in terms of facilities and infrastructure, as it is newer. Previously, the quality of students in CS was higher than in IT, but with significant increases in IT cutoffs, both are now equally good.

The campus life of NIT Calicut is quite good compared to other institutes, but cannot be considered as a campus with excellent facilities. The campus life mostly depends on how you want to spend your years and cope up with the pressure and life altogether. A generalized overview of NIT Calicut is described below in points.

• The campus of NIT Calicut is not too huge, with all major buildings nearby to each other. Only the Mega boy’s hostel and Ladies hostel is situated at a separate residential campus. It usually takes 10-15 minutes to commute inside the campus.
• The campus has enough greenery, but with a lot of rain. There is a problem with water and so, heat is an issue to be survived.
• There is no such happening place around the campus, except the bus stop and an area known as Kattangal, with a few restaurants and shops. Being about 40 minutes away from the city, students usually take a bus to the city or visit the restaurants nearby.
• After 9 PM, girls usually don’t prefer going out roaming around the campus. A strict curfew is maintained from 7 PM, in which 1st-year boys maintain the discipline. Senior boys have their own tricks to roam around anytime. The college is a little discriminative about these rules, but such situations are changing slowly.
• Classes run for variable durations and depend upon the department and year. Some have classes for less than 4 hours and some about 6-7 hours. 
• The hostels are NIT Calicut are quite old, with the mega hostels being comparatively newer. Even the quality of rooms and internet facility is better in Mega hostels. 
• The messes are of various types in the hostels. Seniors get to switch messes. The quality of food at mess depends upon the contractor. 
• Coming to sports facilities, there is an average football field, a rocky hockey field, a tennis court, a volleyball court, and 2 outdoor basketball courts. There is an auditorium with 2 table tennis boards and 3 badminton courts. The football team of the college has done well in recent years.
• The labs are quite well equipped, with good internet. The software systems lab has the best internet on the campus and is open to all students. All the hostels have sufficient internet facilities too. There is a quiet library, a study center, and a digital library that is free from chaos and peaceful enough to sit and study.

Among all, students on the campus learn to adjust to circumstances, make friends, explore the environment and make the best use of available resources in NIT Calicut. The campus life is all about fun and interests, and NIT Calicut is a place worth it.

All three colleges fall on the list of top Architecture institutes in India. NIT Calicut and NIT Trichy are known for Architecture as their best programs. Having to know some people studying in these institutes, I can say that though NITs are the best for architecture, Jamia is also at par with them.

• It is obvious that NIT is a much more popular brand than Jamia. But it is still really good when it comes to architecture.
• Jamia has the locational advantage of being situated in the capital city.
• Jamia has better industrial exposure compared to NIT Trichy or Calicut.
• The course curriculum of NITs is more inclined towards the technical side, which is an upside.
• Placements at NITs are definitely better, but Jamia is also not lagging behind.
• The infrastructure is better in the NITs than Jamia, be it labs, seminar halls, library, etc.
• The fees at NITs are a bit higher than Jamia.
• Though students will get better opportunities after graduating from NIT Trichy or Calicut.

Therefore, it is suggested that you opt for NIT Trichy or Calicut for pursuing architecture. If not then you can go for Jamia instead, as it is also a good college.

Honestly, it totally depends on your choice. If you want as per placement rankings then NIT Calicut surely beats NIT Rourkela which in turn is better than NIT Jaipur and NIT Bhopal. As some of my friends studied at NIT Rourkela, I can assure you that the overall campus is improving very fast. Also they offer good placements.

• Many famous companies are hiring a lot of students now. 
• If you are seeking a good infrastructure, NIT Rourkela is the best of all NITs. 
• For overall rankings, you can refer to MHRD, National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF). 
• Certain departments at NITR leave a lot to be desired, where Calicut has the edge. 
• All is better than Bhopal and Jaipur in placements though. However, in terms of infrastructure, campus life, hostel life, sports facilities, the overall holistic development of an individual NIT Rourkela is a good option. 

Placements cannot be the only judging factor. Remember that students from the best departments at all these campuses do land up getting good IT jobs with a decent salary package.

The VLSI placement in NIT Calicut is average, with a slight low count in job offers, and a minimum of 50% internship offers. The table below gives a brief overview of M.Tech VLSI from NIT Calicut.

Key highlights:

• Previously, the department of VLSI allowed only 50% of students to go for internships. This rule was set up from the batch of 2018. Previously, 50% of the whole department was allowed for internships.
• Though the placement count is quite less, a good internship in companies like NVIDIA and Intel would result in a good pre-placement full-time offer.
• For the 2021 batch, the institute allowed all students for internships, because of problems with guiding students virtually in COVID circumstances. Even if this rule is evoked in the future, the minimum 50% internship rule will be available.

Therefore, the placement in VLSI at NIT Calicut is average, but with some good internship and full-time conversion offers.
