Will nitie lose ground to new iims?

GN
Gargi Nath Posted On : August 13th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

NITIE is nowhere compared to the new IIMs. NITIE and the new IIMs are entirely in a different league. It is reputed for its unique niche, i.e. Operations and Supply Chain Management. Most big FMCG companies prefer to recruit from NITIE. Here are some of the factors that make NITIE better than the new IIMs.

  1. Alumni Base: NITIE has a legacy of over 65 years. So, the alumni base of the institute is huge. Whereas, the new IIMs were established quite recently.
  2. Courses Offered: IIM offers general management courses, whereas NITIE is more known for its specialization in Industrial Management. There are other specializations at NITIE but the PGDIM course is its niche.
  3. Placements: NITIE offers one of the best ROIs in the country. Their average CTC is around 20 LPA, and the course fee is around 8 LPA. On the other hand, new IIM charges around 10 LPA, and their placements are nowhere near NITIE.
  4. Brand Name: The new IIMs don’t have the same reputation as the old IIMs. But NITIE has an unparalleled recognition in the field of Supply Chain and Operations.
  5. Case Studies: All major case studies of top B-Schools are opened in NITIE. The new IIMs are still trying to convince companies to open case studies.
  6. Location: Mumbai is home to most of the big corporate houses. Since NITIE is located in Mumbai, you will have plenty of placement opportunities. Most of the new IIMs are located in remote locations.

So, for job profiles in Finance or Marketing, the new IIMs may be better. However, for Operations and SCM, NITIE is definitely better.

Which would be better for a civil engineer, NITIE or NICMAR, Pune?

KP
Karthik Prasad Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied PGDIM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

NITIE is a very reputed and popular college of our country and it is among the top 20 colleges for MBA. Doing an MBA from this college will give you a better perspective of business. Here you will also get the chance to explore more options apart from civil engineering.

  • At NITIE, only engineers are applicable for admission in this course, so the competition will be very high.
  • This is a general management course, so you may or may not get a course in core companies.
  • But if you want to stay connected to civil engineering, then you can choose NICMAR as its course structure is related to civil engineering.
  • The placement records of this college are very good as the companies visiting the campus for placements are of the same level as IIT Delhi and IIT Madras.
  • They also offer similar salary packages.

Placement Statistics

Categories NITIE Mumbai NICMAR Pune
Course Fee 14.63 lakh 1.75 - 10.56 lakh
Highest CTC 28 LPA 20 LPA
Average CTC 15 LPA 13 LPA

What should I choose between IIM Kozhikode, IIM Indore and NITIE Mumbai?

PB
Pritpal Singh Bhari Posted On : November 29th, 2022
Studied Marketing at Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (Graduated 2020)

If you want to pursue a career in operations, NITIE is superior to both IIM K and IIM Indore. Any other specialization is followed by IIM K, IIM I, and NITIE.

NITIE is the best college in India for operations management, but IIMs are unrivaled in terms of culture and rigor.

IIM K is superior to IIM I for two reasons:

  • IIM Indore has a large batch size.

  • IIM I has a lower level of diversity due to a lower number of work-ex people.

VM
Ved Mehta Posted On : August 16th, 2021
MBA from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

Having to know some people from both these institutions, I can say that both of these colleges are specialized in two different fields. Let me share some facts about both these colleges I gathered by interacting with them.

  • VJTI is one of the prominent engineering colleges and NITIE is prominent among the top B-schools of India.
  • NITIE is recognized for its extensive alumni and professional professors who are experts in their fields.
  • Project Management at NITIE, in terms of studies, is the best among the B-schools in the country.
  • From Project Management at VJTI, 18% of the students are placed in prominent companies.
  • NITIE is known for its high management extension.
  • The placement and faculty of VJTI are not up to the mark when compared to NITIE.
Categories Project Management at NITIE Project Management at VJTI
Course Fee 12.53 lakh 1.65 lakh
Highest CTC 22 LPA -
Average CTC 14 LPA 5.5-6 LPA
Recruiting Companies Deloitte, Dabur, KPMG, Marico, etc. Bank of America, Barclays, Capgemini, Crisil, etc.

Hence, there is no comparison between VJTI and NITIE. But one of my friends has recommended NITIE as in many aspects it manages to be better than VJTI.

Is PGDIE in NITIE a better option than jobs in PSUs like IOCL, ONGC, BPCL after GATE?

PD
Poonam Dalal Posted On : August 28th, 2021
Studied at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering

Jobs at PSUs win over PGDIE at NITIE. However, if you are a fresher and you have to choose one, let us look at both the jobs options one by one.

  1. If you join NITIE, which offers techno-managerial roles, you will end up in the corporate world with lots of job varieties and offers. Even though NITIE is a center of excellence, no big offers are given to students. PGDIE is an industrial course offered by NITIE that does not add much value after 2 years.
  2. On the other hand, PSUs provide you a settled life. However, during the initial years, it might be hectic but it varies from organization to organization. After few years of work, due to saturation employees try leaving the job. So, if you do not like saturation, you can opt for NITIE.

However, 99.99% of top 100 rankers in GATE either go for jobs at PSUs or opt to pursue M.Tech from institutions like IITs/ IISC. In fact, you will find this in any branch you look at. You can also check the GATE rank of persons joining NITIE.

Is there anyone who remains unplaced from old IIM, XLRI, FMS Delhi, and NITIE? Is it possible to be?

HR
Hira Ramchandani Posted On : January 9th, 2023
MBA in Human Resources & Strategy, Xavier School of Management (Graduated 2011)

Top B-Schools have created an Invincible persona and have successfully marketed it over the years; however, there is now a demand-supply mismatch, with seats at all B-Schools almost doubling or tripling in the last decade, and a slew of new IIMs or branches of top colleges such as MDI Murshidabad, IIFT Kolkata, NITIE, FMS Delhi, and XLRI Delhi. The colleges will suffer as a result of the lack of job offers from top companies. The only increase can be attributed to recently funded startups that have started hiring from these colleges by offering outrageous packages.

There are students who are unable to be placed during the normal Summers / Finals process, but these colleges use their star alumni base to place the remaining 5-8 students in companies cofounded by the alums or through alums who have been placed in top positions in traditional corporates.

Should I join NITIE PGDIM as a fresher with no work experience? What is the scenario of placements for freshers at NITIE? Should I write the CAT again?

SC
Shivani Chaturvedi Posted On : August 13th, 2021

You can definitely join NITIE as a fresher. You will have ample learning and placement opportunities at NITIE.

NITIE has placements at par with any other B school in India. NITIE is one of very few B-schools that conduct separate lateral and common placement processes for experienced and fresher. Also, NITIE has a magnificent ROI.

In case your academic record is not good and you have no prior work experience then it’s better to join a job and prepare for next year’s CAT. You can’t improve your academics but this way, you can improve your overall profile.

So, choose the option that suits you best.

MBA (PGDIE) from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2020)

NITIE Mumbai is renowned for its program in Supply Chain and Operations Management. The alumni are currently part of significant firms across the world. The alumni base is both gigantic and spread across different parts of the world.

  1. In terms of academic pressure, it is moderate and that can be a major upside as it will help you to take part in numerous case study competitions, learn more from several online courses, and even take out time for personal chores.
  2. The course curriculum includes core subjects, alongside subjects such as accounting, economics, organizational behavior, and others.
  3. The students of NITIE Mumbai have been making a huge mark in several case study competitions typically organized by certain influential firms.
  4. Various reputed companies visit for both summer internships and placements opportunities including Amazon, Flipkart, BMW, Shell, Hindustan Unilever, Maersk, Walmart, ITC, Uber, Ola, Deloitte, E&Y, KPMG, P&G, Nestle, J&J, Yes bank, Axis bank, ICICI Bank, Airtel, Johnson & Johnson, Asian Paints, Marico, Landmark group and others.
  5. An average salary package ranging from INR 19 LPA - INR 20 LPA is offered. The highest, on the other hand, spikes up to INR 55 LPA.
  6. Various students have secured PPOs during their internship period. Whereas, others typically obtain placement offers in the lateral and combined placement.

Apart from this, the institute has a great ROI as the course fee for a whole 2 years is almost 8 Lakhs, which is typically less as opposed to various other top B-schools. It gives a chance of lesser concerns related to the reimbursement of loans once you begin earning after completion of the course.

How is the placement scenario in the PGDIE course at NITIE?

RS
Rishabh Saxena Posted On : August 28th, 2021
Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2021)

The placement scenario for PGDIE at NITIE is outstanding as a lot of reputed companies visit the campus during placements. These include Abbott, Aditya Birla, Tata Sky, Flipkart, Accenture, Exide, Cognizant, Grofers, Ola, Cloudtail, Myntra, Marico, Reliance, Airtel and many other companies.

A total of 121 companies have visited the campus and the students have received around 130 pre-placement offers. The highest domestic package offered is 44 LPA and the average package offered is 20.85 LPA.

Most of the companies take GD first and then personal interviews, but finance and consulting companies have a different approach. They shortlist the students based on their resumes and then take their interviews. They also take an aptitude test which requires having good knowledge of the subject and decent mathematical skills.

If you have prepared hard enough to present yourself in the interviews, then you will surely get placed in a top company. You should know everything about your resume and should always answer the questions with confidence.
