There is absolutely no ragging here. During the initial few days of your stay here, the seniors may ask you to give them an “intro” or make you do some random stuff such as sing, dance, etc. They may also ask you to wear formal dresses for a week or two. Otherwise, there is no hardcore form of ragging which you may find in other colleges such as BESU, IIT, NIT, or Jadavpur University.

Heritage Institute of Technology doesn’t provide an in-campus hostel facility for freshers. But you will get off-campus facilities. For that, you have to approach the senior authority and then you can wait till you get one.
Further, the in-campus hostel facility is also not up to the mark. The hostel at Kalikapur is unnecessarily costly and there is no maintenance. You can face some issues like an improper switchboard, unhygienic toilets, and even food available is not of that good quality. Even authority overlooks this concern.
There is another hostel which is 98 Anandapur and is well maintained and worth the pay. If you are lucky enough to get any room available here you can shift here. If not, you can find a broker and find the room at your convenience near the campus.

- This college is very good to pursue B.Tech in CSE but not a good option to do M.Tech in CSE.
- And this is not only for CS, but for all other departments.
- Although the faculty and the academics are very good in this college, the placements for M.Tech are not upto the mark and it is better not to choose this college to pursue M.Tech.
- To do M.Tech, it will be better to do it from IIT but you will have to appear for GATE exams to get admission in IITs.
- And do note that you will have to be in the top 1000 in GATE to get selected for M.Tech courses at IIT.
- In West Bengal, there is also Jadavpur University which can also be a very good option to pursue M.Tech in CSE.
- You can also appear for the examination PGET and if you can clear this exam, then you will be eligible to take admission in any government engineering college under WBUT.
Hence, instead of taking admission in Heritage Institute of Technology for M.Tech in CSE, it will be better to prepare for GATE exam and qualify for IIT or else take admission in some other better colleges for M.Tech.

- Kalyani Government Engineering College will be my first choice. It is a Government-run College bestowed with some great Professors.
- Heritage Institute of Technology will be 2nd, as it also has some of the most influential professors. It is an autonomous institute.
- This will be followed by Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College.
- Finally, the Institute of Engineering and Management, as there have been reports of faculty shortage.
In terms of Social life and Co-curricular Activities:
- Heritage Institute of Technology tops this criteria.
- Whereas, Kalyani Government Engineering College is in the 2nd position.
- Followed by Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College and IEM.
