IIT Madras Biotechnology will be a good option if you are interested in Biology. If you want to go for higher studies or research, you will get good exposure at IIT Madras. It is a brach with huge research scope. Opportunities abroad are excellent for Biotechnology, ivy league universities offer great courses in Biotechnology and related fields.
Compared to other core branches at the institute, the placement opportunities are limited. Core placements are very few in number. But there are good opportunities in the non-tech sector. Biocon is one of the very few core biotech companies that recruit through the IIT Madras placement drive. The placement average for the branch is around 60%. The salary packages offered range from INR 8 - 21 LPA.
The average placement package for CSE students at PES University according to my friends, ranges from INR 10-11 LPA. This was for the year 2020 during which many companies revoked their offers made to the students or reduced salaries owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.

Other companies offering fixed compensation of more than 10 LPA include Myntra, Epsilon, Sabre, McAfee, One Direct, Target, Mentor Graphics, Sorocco, Societe Generale, MIQ Digital, Capillary Technologies, etc.
Deloitte offered a package of INR 6.5 LPA and it took more than 90 students where all the branches were eligible. So you can say that this is an average package for all the B.Tech students. This would be much higher for CSE students, while less for other branches.
The placements for M.Tech is pathetic unless you are a CS/IT student. There are a lot of core companies that do not even allow PG students to sit for the placement. Even after this, the students might get sidelined and undergraduate students will be hired.
Students keep on preparing for the interviews and at the end, they are told at the last minute that PGs are not shortlisted. This also includes students with a good academic record and a good CGPA. While the irony is, the students are shortlisted based on their good academic record and good CGPA. A lot of students have experienced this personally multiple times.

CSE and ECE might have good placements. Intel usually takes a good number of M.Tech of VLSI for internships as well as grade 5 officers. But all others are not up to the mark according to them. However, if you would like to pursue Ph.D. after MTech and go into the field of teaching/research, rather than industrial jobs, the brand name of NIT Calicut is going to help you a lot.
There are certain solutions to this as well. NIT Calicut boasts of impressive placement records with high placement rates and attractive salary packages for its students. In the year 2021-2022, the Biotechnology department had a placement rate of 89% with an average salary of INR 7 LPA. On the other hand, the CSE department had a 100% placement rate with a maximum salary of INR 69 LPA, placing it at the top of the salary hierarchy among departments. Other departments such as ECE, EEE, and MECH offered around the same salary packages.
During the NIT Calicut placements in 2022, a total of 193 companies visited the campus, resulting in a placement rate of 90.90%. The average package offered during the placements stood at INR 12.07 LPA, while the highest package offered was INR 67.62 LPA. It is not about placement and companies coming to NIT Trichy; it is about students participating in events all year. Without a doubt, Academics, Ambiance, Library, and Good Hostels are the Foundation for them to prepare for their placements and transition from Academia to Industry.
However, participation in sports, events, seminars, conferences, Technical Lectures, Cultures, Tech Meets, Competitions, freelance projects, interdisciplinary research, and a traveling-ready mentality prepares them for placement.
According to some media reports, 90% of UG students have already been placed. For PG courses, the placement rate has so far been 85%. The full set of statistics has yet to be released.
Previously in 2021, the overall placement rate for undergraduate and graduate courses was 86.5% and 83.3%, respectively. According to official reports, 283 companies participated in the 2021 PG course recruitment drive.
